Also, you can use JAL to do hops in Asia on JL.
I haven't read about it in a while but I believe I've seen specials where you can. Using avios could be a sweet spot for short hops in Japan. I think they still allow the 4,500 poings under 600 miles redemption. Don't quote me on that though.

Yes, everywhere else in the world apart from USA. Here 7,500 is the minimum tier.

Off peak prices from Nola are 16,250 avios + $145 in fees on the MSY-LHR direct.
That's nice. Good option. Might be worth going for.

Remind me, is the BA companion pass valid on Aer Lingus flights
The only reason that makes the companion pass even a question. It has to be used on BA metal, and it has to originate in US. Pretty much requiring you to connect in LHR amd pay the fees.
E.g I believe the first class fees for ORD or DCA to LHR are like $1600 per ticket. So $3200 for 2 tickets plus the miles. Not a bang up value.

So like HKG to BKK is 15000 avios in business class on CX OR JAL. From there you can fly the Asian discount airlines out of DMK for super cheap usually.

Oh and Teddy, any experience in labor law? I need to bend someone's ear with a couple of questions without being charged .

RT on MSY-LHR flight is 32,500 + $450 in Fees. With companion pass that would be 32,500 + $900. This flight is usually $1,300 in cash. So I consider that a great redemption. You go to sleep in Nola, wake up in London. In fact its the only reason I can plan a 3 day trip there, catch a EPL game and fly back.

They have daily discussion and question threads which get in the 500-1000 post range. Every day. It's mind boggling.
There's also r/awardtravel which is soley dedicated to redeeming miles/points.. though I haven't spent much time there.

Besides kicking that exam's arse in law school? No.
I don't even have a direction to point you on that one for free information outside of the Googler unfortunately.

What ya flying? Heading to Peru for a week next year too. Haven't booked yet.
Flying Ethiopian Biz IAD-ADD-CPT. So. African biz JNB-DAR; Swiss Biz DAR-ZRH-JFK on the return. Pretty much rammed both routes through United's engine/call center. I posted about it some pages back.
Peru I flew Avianca Biz IAH-SAL-LIM. United nonstop never opened up. On the return we were the only people in biz class from LIM and 2 others joined at SAL. Felt like I chartered a jet.

I won't be back to Vietnam. The communism aspect didn't sit well with me
Ya, China was kinda weird like that too. My dad served in Vietnam so I'd like to go, plus Thailand is currently run by a junta and Myanmar is quasi pulling out of one so as long as I don't lose a hand I'll gut it out I suppose.

It's insanity. Some of the heavy hitters are claiming they net $3k/month cash back from MS.

Anybody ever tried to get retention offers?
Like cards you don't use, you call and threaten to cancel and see if they'll give you an offer to keep it open? Apparently it's a thing. Just learned about it today.
Any luck for anybody?

I usually do it yearly on pretty much all cards...regardless of whether or not they charge an AF. It's hit or miss and each bank has a different process. For example, I've been able to get retention offers through secure message with Chase but have always been required to call with Citi.

Interesting, I might try it out. What kind of offers did y'all get? Worthwhile?

Anyone have the Citi Costco Anywhere card? I looked up reviews and they are bad but the structure to earn rewards seems very nice. Only thing is I believe the points expire after a year? Not sure.
