If you really want to, they'll probably let you, but be prepared to pay a 3% processing fee.

You'll be a pain in the arse too.

It's my understanding that the 30% doesn't matter if he pays off his CC before his statement closes out.

It will vary from dealer to dealer. They aren't just going to eat that 3% swipe fee.

Remember that there are extended periods due to anti terrorism regulations when wiring over $10k. It takes about 5 business days for them to pay off my CC when it exceeds $10k

--$3k limit on CC has been my experience at two diff dealerships
--submitted all of my docs online, still don't have a buyback date.
--prob gonna get another VW, so I'm hoping the dealer makes allowances for the transaction and I can do everything in one visit. Has anyone heard about special incentives for new purchases by affected owners?

Whole lot of BS in this thread, the answer is it is dealer dependent and some will do it if they add in a processing fee.

I put my daughters car on my Amex in order to meet a threshold that benefited me more than the up-charge/fee.

The dealer had zero issue with it.

I put down $10k on a Lexus with my Amex and it was as easy as buying a pack of gum.

Any dealer that would limit you to $3k or some other random number is not one I'd do business with. You gonna tell me the service department won't take a 5-figure payment with a credit card?

I tried to buy a car using my credit card once because the points I would get with the purchase would have been enough for me to buy two round trip air tickets anywhere in the U.S. on Delta.

The car dealership would only accept the card if they added 3% to the final agreed upon price. That killed it for me. That three percent would have been more than just buying two round trip tickets.

Yes, my wife bought a brand new Mitsubishi Eclipse for 28K and put it all on her credit card. I met her a few weeks later and explained why it was not wise. I helped her take out a conventional loan to pay off the card and make the interest rates much more reasonable.

This. Just bought one. Same situation with my TDI but I had the cash already to float it for a while. The dealer where I bought my new car had a no exceptions policy for credit cards. They wouldn't take a single dollar. Oh well.

As for the TDI, mine is parked now waiting to be bought back. I've submitted all the paperwork and they have "reviewed" it, but haven't given me my official offer yet. Just waiting now.

Haven't heard of anything which surprised me. I thought I would have at least gotten some offers from the local VW deadlership, but nothing (not that I would have purchased a new VW anyway). But oh well, I'm happy with my purchase.

This is off the OPs topic but I too have a TDI parked. I've uploaded all my docs online and mine still says under review. When did yours switch over to reviewed? They've had my stuff on there for weeks.

If there are any lenders like My Great Lakes, who accept CC for payments on a loan, then you can get the car financed through them and pay off the loan balance with the CC.

Further, as LSURussian mentions, if you just pay the 3% fee, there could be ways you could make it worth it for yourself. Get multiple credit cards and hit the minimum spending requirement to earn the bonus on each of them by splitting the payment I'd do it.

Wait, My Great Lakes allows you to do CC payments to pay the balance?

A Honda dealership in Texas told me I could pay for a new car with my credit card. I had a high enough limit to do so and had the cash to pay the bill in full when due. When we agreed on a purchase price I was told I could only put the down payment on the credit card. I walked away.

Technically, putting a down payment on a CC for car that your are financing would violate many of the lender agreements that dealerships have. You are paying equity towards a loan with a loan. I'm sure all of the posters here are OT 800+ scores, so it shouldn't be a problem. But for the credit-challenged, it's a big no-no. In the event of a repo or other finance-related issue it could be a major pain. Most F&I managers or sales managers would be willing to overlook this to get a deal done though; just depends how diligent is the dealer and how desperate is the sales staff.

Took about 3 weeks for it to switch to reviewed on one, but I had the registration issue with the other, so I had to resubmit.

Yeah, I don't get parking it unless you just came across an unbeatable deal. I'm getting well over 40 mpg and I'm actually dreading giving that up. I don't need to give up the car, but the situation presented itself. I'll be going back up to a midsized truck or large car, so I'm dreading the mileage going back down. Driving this until they give me a check.

The only reason I could see to park it is if the mileage was unverified, I just took the wife's in for an oil change on the cutoff date and had the mileage documented, it matters not how many miles she puts on it between then and the settlement date.

I am keeping it and taking the cash, she loves the car.
