re: Inheritance what to do - TigerDeBaiter
The only problem I see in paying off the house is it seems like a trap, or a justification if you will. All the sudden you have more disposable income to spend, so if you don't put at least what the old mortgage payment was into retirement investments you've just told yourself a big lie and conti...

re: Cost to renovate a gutted house? - TigerDeBaiter
But you wouldn't do that throughout. So maybe the real number is around $9/sf total.
Wood would be the more expensive selection, so it would likely be cheaper. I was being conservative. Don't want to get into a pissing match, but I see real bids (that get paid) on a regular ba...

re: Cost to renovate a gutted house? - TigerDeBaiter
If it's down to the studs, what the difference? I think it can be done much cheaper with decent finishes personally. You could do an engineered wood floor throughout for less than $7/SF installed Painting should be less, way less than $10k HVAC should be less than 7k Electrical and ...

re: Not Using a Realtor - TigerDeBaiter
So all in all its a mixed back. If you're a seller, the marketing based on the property, location and condition may require a good realtor. If you're in a hot area or have a fantastic house, you may not need one.
Absolutely. I feel very fortunate to have found a good buyer so fa...

re: Not Using a Realtor - TigerDeBaiter
Just sold mine FSBO. Only site I posted on was Zillow, so I didn't even pay to list it. I did however pay for high quality pictures. I also know people that helped with the contract, although it was super easy. The best part was my buyers don't have a realtor either. :nana: For pics I used an...

re: How much to pay realtor if deal falls through? - TigerDeBaiter
$0 That's part of the reason they are so overpriced. Comissions need to be paid by each individual client IMO. It shouldn't go all on the seller. But then again, would a buyer actually write a check for the service the realtor provided? Hell no. It's just a legal racket. Like everything...

It has a much higher chance of being a negative than a positive. Let assume you actually get the receptionist to take your resume. You probably pissed her off because "that's not my job- I was busy on facebook!"... she (or he I guess) either throws it in the trash or tells them what a jerk you w...

re: What type of retirement acct can you draw from early for down pmt - TigerDeBaiter
This isn't necessarily true. Mortgage rates are so low right now that taking the plunge may well offset the loss of future earnings on that principal. Nobody really knows what will happen, of course - just saying it isn't quite so cut and dried. You're just shifting your investment from your ...

re: What type of retirement acct can you draw from early for down pmt - TigerDeBaiter
You can take all of your principal from a RothIRA at anytime for any purpose. This is not a specific program related to a home purchase. For a traditional IRA you can take up to $10k penalty free, but you still have to pay the taxes on it. Not really a good decision either way...
