Mine has a mechanical problem unrelated to the buy back but I don't want to sink any money into fixing it. I would be driving it otherwise.

sorry to hear that, sounds like you got lucky at the right time.

Yeah luckily my dad has an extra car I was able to borrow. Don't know what I would've done had I had to fix it. Would've been the biggest waste of money

why are you guys parking the TDI's?
1 - I have just over 100k miles on it, due for an oil change and have had a number of maintenance issues with it over the past year. I'm wiping my hands of it and I don't want to sink another dime into it. I dropped about $3k on service the 6 months leading up to the scandal, and I'm over it.
2 - This isn't first hand experience, but I originally read about it on tdiclub forums and it makes sense to me. The only stipulation on delivering the vehicle to the dealership for the buyback is that it must be "driven in under its own power." This would mean the car is operational so if something happens to it between now and the day you turn it in, you need to get it fixed (at least driveable). To further complicate it, I've heard that if you happen to total it, most insurance companies will not agree that the car is valued at the amount VW will buy it back for. For example, I'm supposed to get $16k from VW, but if I total my TDI tomorrow, my insurance will probably only give me ~$8k based on the car's value pre-scandal.
Again, I don't know if #2 is completely true, but I have no desire to test those waters. Lastly, I had the money to buy a car and got what I think is a good deal so I pulled the trigger

This is off the OPs topic but I too have a TDI parked. I've uploaded all my docs online and mine still says under review. When did yours switch over to reviewed? They've had my stuff on there for weeks
I uploaded/submitted title/registration/license on 10/19 and then got the following email on 10/26:
quote:
We have reviewed the documents you submitted as part of your claim with reference number ##########. Currently, your application contains all of the necessary documentation to determine your eligibility. We are now determining your eligibility and will inform you whether you are eligible to participate in the VW/Audi Diesel Emissions Settlement Program.
Haven't heard anything since then.

You guys were never given any kind of date? Maybe I had just submitted my VIN number a long time ago to see if I was "eligible" or something. I was told that my estimated buyback time would be ~12/15 as long as my paperwork was reviewed properly. Then I got a similar email to yours, except it said I needed to re-upload my registration with an updated copy (which like you I wasn't planning to update since I was turning the vehicle in soon, was going to roll the dice in regards to a ticket).
