It wasn't a dead ball penalty. The infraction took place during live play.

Well, yea, that's what we are discussing. As of this year, it's not a dead ball foul if it occurs prior to the score. In prior years, it was treated as such regardless of when it occurred.

Yeah, but all you people here saying it was the right call would have a totally different opinion if we lose by 4 or 7 for that matter. We are being very mild about this cuz it wasn't that detrimental to the outcome of the game. I bet this rule gets amended real quick if a game swings from win to loss cuz of this rule in a bcs conference with major implications.

Not here. I've been in those situations as a coach and official. I would be upset, but the responsibility lies with the guilty party.

If you don't mean to taunt somebody then you're not actually taunting. Murder requires intent or it's involuntary manslaughter. Taunting requires intent or it's merely an involuntary gesture.

I like the rule... in Wing's case, however, it was horribly misapplied.

He should blame himslef. But, it was a great call y Les and by the coaches that saw the opening. Until the mental mistake, it was a great run by Wing.

They didn't make that call, but yeah.

The punter scored a touchdown in that game in my eyes and that will never change.

Just because a play was scratched from the game and the record books due to a penalty that had no effect on the play does not mean that it never happened. It happened at it was awesome. Favorite play this year.

My entire section was cracking up laughing at the fake punt, One guy stated that Wing runs like a girl. He looked like he was high stepping the entire run.

I wanna see some more trick plays by the Mad Hatter and our Fightin' Tigers.

I'm quite sure that Stoops would be conducting himself the same way if it had happened to him.

"I do think there's a large amount of disrespect in taunting and that's not what I'm about," Wing said Monday. "I've never been anywhere near an end zone before. I was so excited and the emotion got the better of me ... and I made a silly mistake."

I think we all knew this without him having to say it. Who gives a frick about the penalty? The football gods know it was a touch down.

No whining coming from a class guy.

He doesn't have to whine.

Everyone here along with most of America is doing enough whining for him.

I'm just amazed that so many here are giving him a free pass "because after all, he's the punter".

So what if the rule is stupid?

He knew the rule. He broke it anyway. He cost the Tigers a touchdown.

I'm just shocked that no one here has called him a thug and pointed out how selfish he was by bringing his street antics onto LSU's hallowed field and sullying the great tradition of LSU football.

The following statement is something that I'm not shocked to find here one iota:
quote:

JJ could learn some public relations from Brad Wing! Well said young man.

So Wing costs the Tigers a TD and he's classy. JJ has nothing to do with it, but he could learn from Wing.

Boy--it's great to be a punter in America.

Agreed completely that people are judging by a double standard giving Wing a free pass. Just easier to scapegoat this one on the officials.
