Well since we have had the benefit of St. Nick and have had Coach Miles and can compare the two at LSU, I can say honestly and with no reservations, that I am glad Les Miles is HC at LSU now and not Nick Saban.

A lot of people think that being a head coach is mostly about knowing X's and O's. So, they gravitate towards coaches like Kelly and Leach that are more glorified coordinators than anything. They totally take for granted the CEO type duties that contribute to the running of a program.

I don't know if Miles is the best coach in college football. If I had to say one way or another I'd say no.

But, the list of coaches above him is pretty damn short. And, many people, even LSU fans don't realize this.

And, there are some things that Miles does better than any coach bar none. Do you realize how valuable it is to have a coach that will have his team 100% emotionally ready to play in every big game? Can you imagine this LSU team being intimidated on any stage? Can you imagine this team, even with clear deficiencies, ever entering a big game with doubt that they can win?

I agree with this, except game day management: Nick>Les.

If Colt McCoy does not get injured Texas beats Bama in the NC game. Bama's 1st quarter play calling sucked.

Amen to that moneyg. I could post all my thoughts on this but it would take a few pages. Basically Les gets the most out of his players, and knows how to get them fired up and ready to play.

Don't overlook the fact that Les
Has weathered the storm of replacing a guy
That alot of people think is great. And he
Has won and maintained, and is on track
To win more. Just look at all the big
Programs that replace a great coach and
The problems they have.

True but I agree, I think Texas would have won that game with Mccoy.

Saban is also a better recruiter.

This is just stupid and pure speculation.

I've thought it for a while....not that he's perfect...no one under the microscope is...but there is no better coach, recruiter, motivator, leader or human being coaching a BCS program right now.

This reminds me of that scene in 3:10 to Yuma.

"You forget...what he's done for us".

Disagree. Bo taught him well. You can wear shitty, fancy uniforms, but you can't get away from the basic fundamentals of football and be elite. Les knows the fundamentals of the game and , over all, is the best BCS leader of them all.

And No Saban is not any better. frick that dude. He is prone to losing to some real shitty teams.

les miles has never lost less than 2 games as a head coach, and he has 1 conference title as a head coach

Thread has settled into a Les vs Saban "discussion "

Will say again, cannot put a value on this caliber of leaders. Les is a player's coach - Saban is a coach's coach.
I look for the little things with team. Remember Saban as the ice chest of red gatorade hit him? Body language said he was pissed! Damn, loosen up! You're about to win it all!
Les, by comparison, knows it's coming & zips up the jacket! Bring it on.

Have to believe Saban's intensity gets old pretty fast for players & coaches. Major Applewhite bailed & was quoted "I need a life ".

Give me a leader over an intimater any day!

based on what? Other than Saban...who in the west can come close to claiming to be better?

Petrino?

Mullen?

Sorry, but I'd take exceptional gameday coaches over someone that is likeable at the podium or within the community.

And its not really a slight. Nick Saban is the best coach in the country, and Petrino and Mullen are in the top 10. Miles is right behind them, but i would rather all 3. Just personal opinion.

Everything is fine and dandy around here after a huge win like this. It always is. I realize its not a popular opinion at this point.

I still think Miles is a good coach, and I wouldn't want him gone unless I know for sure it is someone i like who would replace him. Like many say, we could do a lot worse. And i agree. Let's see how this season plays out.

well he's the best in the business, and this is a thread about miles being the best, so that's logical

so far, saban's results out-pace miles' results. it's not even close, really
