I love when the media hypes someone up so much and then turns around and calls them overrated because they didn't live up to the ridiculous hype that they caused.

Not meeting unrealistic expectations isn't the kid's fault. That lies at the feet of the media and LSU. They hyped the kid through the roof. Most hyped recruit, ever, arguably. LSU markets this stuff like its like depends on it. It does. You see it every year in football. The hype is already being built for next season.

LSU hasn't prioritized basketball in years. It just hypes and promotes.

So can the basketball gurus give me a list of things Simmons excels at? I only come up with he makes some good passes and he gets rebounds. He doesn't have any moves off the dribble. He doesn't even attempt jump shots. He should be a swatting machine with his length and athleticism but he's not. He barely even plays defense most of the time. He's not very good at free throws. I don't get how he's a unanimous #1 pick at this point.

He is right. He wasn't even the best player on the court or on either team last night and it showed. The guard from Bama was by far the best player in that game.

maybe you haven't watched but he can't shoot. Big men that can't play down low and shoot from the outside are apparently highly sought after though

this is laughable. He has all the tools to be great in the nba. That's all the nba cares about. He needs to get nba coaching as soon as possible.

Really? Has the man hit a jump shot all year? Do you really think at this point his has the skills to go inside against the players in the NBA?

He has NO shot. Not a bad shot, or a decent shot... He has NO SHOT. You can lay off him and he won't even take it.

If there ever was a player that needed to stay in college its Ben Simmons. He needs to develop a shot. And a jr. high coach can do that. He needs to develop a little more physically, and he needs to learn to take control of games.

And most of all, he needs to work on this in a place that will build his confidence. And that's in college. If he goes to the NBA, there is a huge risk that because he has NO Shot, he will lose a lot of confidence and it will take him forever to see his talent through.

Stay in college, have fun, develop your game a year or two and then make your millions. IF he had a shot I'd say go now. But in all honesty, I cannot remember a player ever being as hyped as he is that literally cannot shot the basketball. EVER.

Simmons will be better in the NBA than he is at LSU.

He can handle the ball for a guy his size. He has one move off the dribble and it's a fake crossover. If he's one on one that's what he's going to. If that kid had any type of jump shot he'd be a fricking terror. Right now all of his points are coming in transition or cleaning up the boards.

Ball handling
Getting to the rim
Passing
Rebounding
Court vision
Basketball IQ
Instincts
Great hands

Really the only thing he can't do is shoot from the outside and at times he could be more aggressive. He isn't perfect, but he is a 18 year old freshman with amazing numbers.

Skip Bayless just makes open ended predictions then goes on tv and says he predicted whatever happened...
If Simmons produces in NBA he will say he predicted it

He once said he would take Josh Freeman over Cam Newton

His ball handling it just good for his size.
He can get to the rim but he's so passive he cancels himself out on this one.
Passing, rebounding and court vision I'm with you.
His IQ is incredible at times and then WTF at times. Needs work there too.
Instincts see above.
He does have really good hands.

All of that being said, how is that a #1 pick in the NBA when it's a scoring league and he's not a PG that will run an offense?

I agree. He's got NO sense of urgency. The whole team shows a lack of enthusiasm. Probably a mirror image of their coach.

He has gotten to line over 200 times already this year. He isn't as passive as the narrative on here makes him out to be.

Should be double that amount. He should be doing that trying to take over games late but he sucks at free throws so that's not actually a good idea.

People don't understand that the term "overrated" doesn't mean the player in question isn't good. A kid can be "overrated" and still be a great player.

Considering the hype he got before coming to LSU and being considered a probable example of what LeBron James would have looked like had he played college ball, Ben Simmons is, by definition, overrated.

That doesn't mean he isn't a top 5 college basketball player.
