you know where the best place to develop a shot is? In the nba with nba coaching.

but how can anyone live up to hype that came with Ben ....

Magic had the same type of hype if not more... He turned out pretty good in college.............. Ben has ZERO killer instinct for a guy with that much talent.......

Dude misses a shite ton of free throws

He does, but I'm confused as to why people say that makes him overrated?

Most comparisons say he is a young LeBron, well when young LeBron was averaging 40 minutes a game as a 22 year old in the NBA he shot 69.8% from the charity stripe. Simmons is shooting 68% right now.

You know who is very likely going to be the #2 pick in the draft? Brandon Ingram, a freshman guard at Duke, who is averaging 68.1% from the free throw line.

Other notable FT%s from AP POY award winners:

Anthony Davis - 70.9%
Blake Griffin - 59.0%
Kareem Abdul-Jabbar - 650%
Tim Duncan - 63.6%

He shot poorly last night and it hurt us greatly, but people need to get over these huge emotional swings after one game.

Also, if you don't think he is focused on improving you're nuts. You don't get to his level without working your arse off, and if free throw shooting and his jump shot are areas that need improvement, and they do, I'd imagine he is trying to improve those so he's ready to go day 1 in the NBA.

That's not true. There are a ton of big men who developed their shot in the NBA. Maybe for guards, yea.

He doesn't play like a big man though. He has no post game and no jump shot. He's a 6'10 wanna be Stockton.

Patrick Ewing and Olajuwon immediately come to mind.

im with you on this one... kid dribbles and passes good, that's it

I love these threads. It helps coagulate all of the idiots into one place so I know who to ignore going forward.

Simmons is and will be a matchup nightmare in every game. If you double him, which Alabama did often, he is going to get the ball to the open man. That guy has to make the shot, and we just aren't hitting them at times.

He doesn't have the moves of Kyrie Irving with the ball, but there are few, if any, 4s and 5s that can guard him in transition. If you put a 4 or a 5 on him, he'll blow past them. If you put a 1-3 on him, he'll take advantage of his size.

Basically any and all quantifiable metric for Simmons shows how great he is, but this board is full of people who don't believe he has enough "heart" or doesn't have the "clutch" gene or some other made-up buzzword that helps you deal with your frustration that LSU isn't 21-5 right now.

I'm frustrated too, but these threads that shite on Simmons are embarrassing. If you've watched him all year you can EASILY understand why he'll be the #1 pick.

He doesn't play like a big man? When not on the fast break he posts up a ton. He has to take the ball from the outside a lot because he gets doubled when he posts up and teams want to make someone else beat them.

But make no mistake, Ben is a post player and always will be. He just passes and dribbles well enough to where he's not limited to just the post.

One thing for Ben is that things came so easy for him in HS. Nobody could guard him and he played with 5 star players every night. He is still coming to grips with the fact that this isn't HS anymore and things are much harder for him at this level....

So he's averaging 19.3 points on 56% shooting with no post game and no jump shot. Oh, ok.

C'mon man, his jump shot issue is well documented, but he is very quick in the post and often gets his guy out of position. He doesn't have a dream shake or a hook shot, but to say he isn't good in the post is asinine.

The in-game threads are usually full of people bitching about getting the ball to him in the post -myself included.

Simmons isn't considered a "big". He is more along the lines of a Durant (size and ball handling). He will not be a guy you can pound it into on the low block unless he has a serious mismatch.

I watched Cousins, Davis, and the other "big" from Kentucky in the All Star skills challenge the other night. They had to dribble pass and shoot a 3. I don't think any of them were touted as great ball handlers coming out of college but they all seemed to handle it better than Simmons...and they had a jump shot.

It took Lebron a few years to have a decent jump shot.

I already said he gets his points in transition and cleaning up boards and from whatever few free throws he makes.

He still had one. His game is also much different than BS. He can play point guard in the NBA. I don't think comparing LJ and BS is fair to BS b/c he will never be the player LJ is...that is why I say he is more like Durant but with no perimeter game.

This I agree on. LBJ is a once in a lifetime player.

And yet he still is averaging 19.3/12.0/5.1 on 56.1% shooting with 1.0 blocks and 1.9 steals per game despite said difficulty.

Here are the numbers of a pretty solid PF in his own right.

Points/Reb/Assist/Blocks/Steals Per 40 minutes:

13.0/12.7/1.2/5.0/0.5 on 54.5% shooting - Tim Duncan as a freshman at WF

22.2/13.7/5.8/1.1/2.2 on 56.1% shooting - Ben Simmons this year
