Chavis needs to teach tackling instead of trying to strip the ball.....loose a good bid of yards in process....

I will disagree with you. That collective list may have been highly regarded prior to college, but it is in no way comparable to the talent level in 09-12. Youre also using 2 true freshmen as an argument.

Doesn't matter they have the talent, my argument is that people keep saying its that they just arent talented enough, thats bullshite. Theres a ton of talent on this defense but they are not executing and not focused at all. Thats not on the players. This has happened to the 09-12 teams too. We always frick a couple games up that we shouldnt and are way too inconsistant with our level of play whether its the offense or defense!Richt,Miles,Brown are one in the same!! No discipline what so ever!!

This is very true but this isn't just the sole reason for the defense's struggles especially on 3rd down.

The defense does lack a consistent pass rusher which is an aspect that has been a staple of the strong defensive units of the past.

Chavis isn't helping the situation by only rushing 4 & playing zone on 3rd & long plays. When a defense fails get a pass rush in zone coverage, receivers have ample time to find the soft spots in the zones to pick up first downs. The quarterback will also have plenty of time in the pocket to wait until his receivers find these soft spots. This is happening time after time. Even if the defense shows blitz & the blitz doesn't get there or get there late, it may still force the QB to throw "hot" short of the first down or it may cause him to move off his spot in the pocket & force a bad throw.

Even when Chavis blitzes, its the same recycled corner blitzes off the edge. If the fans are seeing this then you know opposing offenses see this on film & come into games prepared for it.

There is no creativity when it comes to Chavis & his 3rd down packages. He keeps using the same packages over & over again with the hopes of a different outcome which is just not happening.

I love what Chavis has done in his time at LSU but the man is stubborn & refuses to be versatile in his scheme especially on 3rd down. The sign of a great coach is when a coach has the ability to tweak his scheme accordingly around the personnel he has available. Chavis doesn't do this which is why he's a good coach but not great.

Chavis' defense is what carried the team 2009-2012. In that time LSU played good offenses from Ark, Oregon, WV, Florida, Clemson etc and the defense did enough to win all those games.

Chavis stops spread offenses as good as anyone but Saban so I'm happy to give him a pass this year.

Right but the offense was not focused and not excecuting which is what I was referring to. You can't expect talent to overcome coaching. Some discipline needs to be instilled in these players!!

I'm trying to think what lesser teams have we lost to besides Ole miss? We beat Aub and Uf. They are just as if not more talented than us. LSU is not the most talented team if you go by recruiting rankings. Actually you have several teams we play that have had at least one class in the last 4 cycles higher than ours. TCU and Ole miss included. Uga, Aub, UF have had multiple classes ranked.higher than ours. Then you have bama. Who always is ranked higher. So I don't buy this lose to inferior team bullshite. Clemson is not inferior based on talent. Arkansas and Ole miss are the only ones where you can say LSU is more talented, but not at every position.

At the very least the players should know how to make a tackle. It's sad watching them fail at tackling. Doesn't matter if it's the QB or RB or WR, tackling is an adventure every time.

There are always games we play down to teams below us.

Ole Miss had A WALK ON, playing DE. They were missing numerous starters on defense, and played with a third string RB.

We played down to competition vs UT in 09 but were bailed out by stupidity. We lost the clock game to ole miss. We were more talented than Clemson. Hill was abusing them on the ground, yet never saw another carry. Deandre Hopkins was a one man wrecking crew vs a defense of 7 NFL players?
We lost to Arkansas more than a few times when they had less talent. All because we couldnt stop a team that could only run the ball.

Not sure if serious but Chavis shouldn't be on any type of hot seat. Coaches can't control players efforts. That is our issue not scheme or talent. Go back and look some players aren't giving it all they have. Sad truth our the recruiting services and all our coaches got it very wrong on some players.

Our Oline got its arse whipped by Ole Miss dline. Were they more talented? No they at one point had a walk on in there. Were they better coached? Doubt it. But their effort was ten times what our front 4 were giving. Seemingly they had penetration and pressure almost all night. There is a reason why LSU is near the bottom in tackles for loss this year. Hint it isn't schemes or coaching... Because since Chavis we have been in the top half of that stat every year except this one. His D relies on a dominate front that can get pressure nd stop the run, it isn't happening this year

I absolutely believe Chavis should start feeling some heat, especially after the Ole Miss game. Since last season, LSU has given up far too many last minute scores. I have no doubt that it is a coaching issue with how consistent it has been, that is a pretty big problem that needs to be addressed.

The defense did their job as well as can be expected against a talented offense running that many plays

What's crazy is he held the heisman trophy winner to 0 tds and aTm under 20, held Clemson last year to 25. Only once has he given up over 40 points. Think about that, we have played West VA, Clemson, Oregon, Arky with petrino, Bama, TCU, aTm, UGA and only once gave up over 40, hell I think maybe 3 times given up over 30. Chavis has held his own
