More teams are running the spread no-a-days and Chavis hasn't shown the ability to consistently defend against teams who run spread offenses. It's not just this season, it's been a trend now for the past few years.

I absolutely think so.

Chavis's defense here has been supplied by some ridiculous talent. But when that talent leaves, the scheme is exposed. It's just not a good scheme anymore.

Third and CHavis has been a familiar term since he was at UT and since being at LSU. We need a change there, and please GET RID OF STUD. He is a below average OL coach. I'm not even getting into his recruiting efforts.

He needs playmakers up front. He doesn't have them.

That's just one game where he was successful

does he recruit? does he have the final say on which defensive players we recruit?

This is by far the least talent he has had at LSU. Could be one of the least talented defenses he has ever had as a DC in the SEC.

Agreed. Our defense is just bad.

Why do people keep trying to pin the blame on Chavis? The players were in position most of the time Saturday, they were just incapable of coming up with timely stops.

Not having a single playmaker isn't helping. No Tyrann, no Mingo/Montgomery, no Peterson.

well i wish the past dc would have recruited those play makers up front... oh wait chavis is 100 percent responsible for the talent we have. he has been here long enough that we shouldn't be saying we dont have the talent he needs. That excuse works for first and second year coaches. Yes i know the draft raped him but we shouldn't be as bad as we are on defense right now.

this is a flawed stand point otherwise very few coaches ever get fired.

These kids were not prepared to play this game. They weren't focused, and they are still (and always will be) undisciplined. I think we can all agree to that.

I don't think its good that to be effective, we have to have a defense stocked with top end NFL talent. Remember the back end of last year? We were torched by Clemson and Ole Miss

But to say he hasn't stopped spread offenses is misleading

I said that he hasn't shown the ability to consistently defend against teams who run spread offenses

My point is not misleading.

The problem, IMO, is that the players don't know how to play zone coverage. They're now getting to the right area, but it seems as if their waiting for the QB to throw the ball to them instead of the receiver. They are not playing the receivers in their zone.

If they would just play lamar instead of DJ it would make a big difference DJ is block by a pulling guard every run play. If you re-watch the game with lamar in no ten yard runs were given up.

No. But, he should have rotated more last year for game experience on these young players. The defense was depleted by draft and badger issue. This defense has had good games but they have to be more consistent. Youth.
