He should have been on the hot seat after the Alabama loss last year. The fact is, this D looks only slightly better today than it did the first game of the season. That tells me its gained experience, but is not responding to coaching.
It really is a concern that he HAS to have elite NFL type players on his defense to succeed.

Agreed. Our defense is just bad.

How much leeway does he get? The defense collapsed at the end of last season and has stunk ever since. In his defense, he lost a ton of players to the NFL draft, but it doesn't help that his schemes seem passive and tired. Is it possible that the game has passed him by?

Tyrann matheiu made the defense what it was. He had 2 cover guys and could put him at nickle and disrupt everything by blitzing. Is it any wonder why the d took a step back last year? Mingo and montgomery masked it a little and we had a little more depth on d line but that is the real reason. Was the d as sucessful before or after tyrann? Think about it remember the north carolina game before tyrann started making plays?

This is by far the least talent he has had at LSU. Could be one of the least talented defenses he has ever had as a DC in the SEC.

False. I don't know why people keep saying this defense is not talented. Just about every single one of those guys on this defense were pretty highly touted coming out of high school. Loston,White,Roinson,Freak,Barrow,Kwon,Ego,Martin,Hunter,Allen,Rasco all had alot of offers and alot of talent coming into college. I've seen alot of other D coordinators doing more with less.I like Chavis he is a great coach but he needs some of the blame too!

It's not the players its the scheme!

We hardly blitz, and when we do its the same shite. Its a nickel back off the edge or a safety. There is no creativity to what we do on defense.

Often the blitzes are shown way to early, aren't disguised, and are picked up very very easily.

The tackling is atrocious. That's fundamentals and discipline.

this is a flawed stand point otherwise very few coaches ever get fired.

bullshite. At some point everyone has to stop blaming the coaches. These kids just arent playing good. To just blame it on the coaches is a level of denial that we dont have a problem with the players themselves.

When we lose it is 100% on Miles.

When we win the credit can be given to both Cam and Chavis.

You cant be creative when the players arent as good as they have been. How do people not understand that? When you have the likes of Reid, PP, Simon, Taylor and Mathieu you can do a lot of creative shite with the front 6-7 guys. With the guys we have now, you cant.

This! and good luck with the recruiting following performances like the one at Ole Miss. And people wonder why the TOP Louisiana talent chooses to go to an ELITE program.

Who is responsible for getting these kids ready to play?

Who keeps them focused?

Your argument is bullshite when in fact any coach could say "its on the players".

Miles did not have this team ready, focused, and motivated.

Chavis called a horrible game and his scheme is outdated and easy to beat unless he has an All American at safety, two NFL cover cornes, an NFL MLB, and 4 NFL DL. That to me sounds like a flawed scheme if he needs that to make it work.

Let's not foget, even with that, the raping Clemson and Ole Miss gave us last season.

Dude we lost literally the whole defense besides freak ego, Loston barrow mills. If you think we can replace all the underclassmen who left and the seniors your crazy.

In our last four losses we have had the lead or been tied with two minutes left in the game. This problem goes back to last year so to me it's not simply a talent issue. It should be obvious opposing teams have picked up on something that we do schematically and have come up with a way to scheme around it. Not saying he should be on the hot seat but if the defense keeps blowing these leads he will eventually find his way there.

Chavis needs to change his scheme to fit his players. He is being stubborn. Ole Miss was missing 8 players by the end of the game but their D coordinator still found a way to scheme to beat us.

I will disagree with you. That collective list may have been highly regarded prior to college, but it is in no way comparable to the talent level in 09-12. Youre also using 2 true freshmen as an argument.

well who is responsible for our players not being as good?

we can't replace every player on the d so the blame falls on the man at the top.

So Miles and Chavis should be fired because a guy like Loston just never put it together? It happens all the time.

Not saying any coach can say that, but you dont go from having the kind of Defense weve had the last two years and the number of guys in the NFL from it to the shite we have now and its the coaches fault. The players just arent as good.

Im sorry, but people who just want to blame Chavis and not put at least half of this on the players is ridiculous.
