Great analogy!

this says it all...

sooner or later luck will run out...

like the last two year...8-8 conference record...
plus we havent played Arky, Miss, and Bama yet...
only thing people can say is we beat a 4 loss Fla team...

bet money meyer will have a QB ready for next year and Fl will be a top ten team again...its because of coaching...

Agree, except for "good recruiter". He has done well at LSU there is no doubt but I believe most of the credit goes to the university itself.

Could you recruit Top 5 classes consistently at LSU?

Hay I would like to dig further back but both sites stopped at 2002. If you know of another that goes beyond 02 let me know.

As far as LM recruiting before LSU, looking kind of average.

Terrible analysis because you give no baseline. Here is a better way of figuring it out, using Rivals data:

LSU in the 4 years prior to Miles' arrival averaged a class ranking of 10th. Since Miles arrived, LSU's classes have been ranked 5.8 on average.

OSU in the 4 years with Miles averaged a class ranking of 25.5. In the 5 years since he has left, their class average has fallen to 29th.

I would say that Miles alone is good enough to bump a school up 4 spots on average. That is 1 or 2 five stars, and could make or break a program.

With your baseline approach it shows Miles has a positive affect on recruiting, but LSU is still a top 10 school with out Miles. IMO we can get a coach that adds the same value without the short comings. I also think LM falls short in development. If he gets the 1-2 five star players and he doesn't get the most out of him, than we have gained nothing.

No. LSU is a top 10 school with Saban. Saban is arguably the best coach in college football, and a heralded recruiter. You do not know what LSU would be without two of the better recruiters in college football at the helm.

Les is a good recruiter, not a great recruiter and very replaceable. There are many coaches out there who are doing more with less talent because they know how to get the most out of their players.

I think it is this simple. Let the negatigers compare the other top ranked programs in the country during the same years as Les Miles' tenure. Please demonstrate through the Win-Loss record those programs and coaches who have excelled past what Les Miles has done in the time span. Then tell me which one of those few coaches is going to quit that school and come coach at LSU.

Miles won us the title in '07. We've had 2 bad years (Texas is down this year people) but he learned from it and got us freaking Chavis and is keeping him loyal, and I trust he will wise up and get us a replacement at OC after this year also. Please recognize that this year we started 7-0 for the first time since 1973!! We are on the rebound already people. Miles has already bettered his best start. Saban didn't go 7-0 here. And the first 6 games this year were not cupcakes.

Elite programs do NOT grow on trees no matter how sweet the circumstances are. Look at Miami, even Florida State over the past several years--grossly underachieving considering their circumstances. Look at Florida when it was under Ron Zook. Georgia has a sweet pot also, you do realize that Georgia is extremely wealthy for recruiting but Georgia and Georgia Tech have not been able to rise to the level of LSU. Other schools like UCLA should be much much better considering their recruiting opportunities.

Who is a "great" recruiter then?

You can't say Saban, because I just showed you that Miles is significantly better than Saban was at LSU.

That may or may not be true, but it does not confirm or deny whether Miles is a great recruiter.

That's not accurate at all. Both recruited very well at LSU.

To say that Les recruits significantly better than Saban did is a joke. There were some real holes on the 2008 and 2009 teams, and Miles started with a stacked deck.

Listing of the Pros and Cons of Les Miles as HC

Pros:
Loyalty to program
Good recruiter
Clean Program
Appears honest
Player's Coach (this could be a negative)

Cons:
Squanders talent
Poor game day coaching
Poor player development
Extremely poor communications skills
Hardheaded
Hires bad coordinators and keeps them around while they fail
Refuses to make major adjustments or moves mid- season, (goes down with the ship)
Uninspiring and non-motivational
Hates the fanbase (too dumb to understand that his success is inextricably tied to their happiness)
Lack of aggression and command of the program
Poor leadership skills

this is great. a bad game day coach continues to reside in the top 3rd of the best conference in america. explain how this is possible.

as for the rest of your list, it's the same old story. you are overlooking that OTHER COACHES HAVE FAULTS TOO.

some people are just never going to get it.

at the expense of the team, the fans, and the University. Just because he is now a "squatter" and can't be gotten rid of does not mean he deserves to be here.

what does this even mean? he "deserves" to be at lsu because he was hired and performs his job to the satisfaction of the people who pay his salary. he is in no sense a squatter.

how is his job at the expense of the fans and the team? the fans aren't owed anything except the opportunity to be entertained. as for the team, he provides a good atmosphere, the possibility for advancement into the pros and the chance to get a degree. apparently, miles is succeeding on all those fronts.

the point is that criticism of miles to this point is mostly unjustified. he's no different than other coaches except he wins more.

considering that the points you just made were pretty ridiculous, you continue to prove my point.
