They wish that was the case for buying tickets to this year's bowl game.

A little differnet here. Many of us on this board purchase season tix or in other ways support the program monetarily and that includes coachin salaries. A portion, albeit small, of Miles' salaray is paid by the taxpayers. These are different than normal private sector considerations that would cause me never to care "what someoen else makes." Coach Miles' salary is a little different.

Yes. But not a little different, it is a lot different.

This is not true.

Are you really going to tell me that you can't see that winning 2 SEC Championships and a National Title, and the Sugar Bowl is better than 1 SECCG and a national title?

2005-2007 is the most nationally relevant three year period in LSU football history. You have to be off your rocker to not agree.

I don't disagree, but that is a different argument. 2001-2003 was LSU's rise to national relevancy.

They are both great periods in our recent history, but one is not laughably better than the other. You used the word success, which is measured by championships. 3 Championships > 2 Championships.

I could have sworn that the SEC Championship and National Title had a big part in the 1st one

Sumlin worked the system. Saban is where he belongs. So is Miles. No raise if warranted.

•Nick Saban, Alabama — $7.1 million
•Kevin Sumlin, Texas A&M — $5 million
•Les Miles, LSU — $4.3 million
•Hugh Freeze, Ole Miss — $4 million
•Steve Spurrier, South Carolina — $4 million
•Gus Malzahn, Auburn — $3.8 million
•Butch Jones, Tennessee — $3.6 million
•Mark Stoops, Kentucky — $3.6 million
•Jim McElwain, Florida — $3.5 million*
•Gary Pinkel, Mizzou — $3.4 million
•Mark Richt, Georgia — $3.3 million
•Bret Bielema, Arkansas — $3.2 million
•Dan Mullen, Mississippi St. — $3 million
•Derek Mason, Vanderbilt — Private

I don't think anyone really disagrees that a raise is warranted. Most people just don't really care...

Also, your numbers are misleading. Gus gets a raise every single year.

quote:

Malzahn's new contract will pay him $3.85 million in 2014, and he then receives a raise of $250,000 in each subsequent year of the contract, all the way up to $5.1 million in 2019.

Sumlin worked the system

Wait, so you just write that off? Isn't that what Miles has done?

because they believe his value to the University is worth it? and it is hard to argue otherwise. There is no guarantee of getting a better coach than Les Miles. And, while we could take a shot with a dozen or so coaches who have a chance of being equal to Miles (maybe 3 or 4 with a legit shot to be better), it is just a chance. So, you can give Miles another $250,000-$500,000/year, add a year or two to his contract for the guarantee of sustained success (winning 10 games almost every single year).

Or, you can take a chance and end up paying another coach $500,000 - $1,000,000 less than Miles and having the program tank.

That's why they have given him raises and extensions. Because his value is worth it.
Like I said: I have no problem with a raise. He's already signed up through 2019. Let's talk extension after next season.

Is that you Joe? I keep hearing this, but try selling tickets, season or single game, for any game not against Alabama. At face. Even eating TAF fees. None of those thousands of people dying to experience Tiger Stadium were anywhere to be found. So I call BS on that.

You can't. In previous years, a really good ticket could be sold on the Tiger Marketplace or outside the stadium at face value. That still represented a loss of 2/3rds of the real cost of the ticket (when factoring in tix price and TAF/Tradition fees). With the stadium expansion and the "weanie games", forget about it. You will loose the entire cost of the ticket if you cannot make the game.

This. Although I won't be giving up my TAF membership or tickets (11 years now), I won't be buying any bowl tickets. Spoiled? Probably. Disappointed? Absolutely.

He does not deserve a raise until we stop giving away games, clock w/ole miss (twice), bama 2014, bama NC game, ten lost in o/t after leading 20-0, some of the reasons off the top of my head. I don't want CLM to leave, but he does not deserve a raise...Most of us have to do a good job to get a raise..

hardly aligned along liberal/conservative lines. Most ticket-purchasing football fans and are not liberal.

I've decided to cherry pick your post the way you cherry pick Les' record. This way, your post looks better to me and fits my argument better.
