Welcome to the NFL draft. Coaches can't teach 6'5 with a strong arm and decent running ability. They can teach (or at least try to teach) a QB how to read defenses, check down throws, etc., etc. I'm not saying that JJ will (or should) get drafted, but the NFL places much more emphasis on a guy's natural physical ability, relative to his performance as a college player. Otherwise, the Danny Wurfel's and Timmy Chang's of the world would be #1 picks. There's a reason why guys who have great speed and/or size get drafted even though their production in college was "ok" at best. Just becase they are drafted, doesn't mean they'll make a team.

If Jordan Jefferson were ever to make it in the NFL, it would show what a complete failure the entire LSU coaching staff has done to bring JJ along for 4 long years. He was no better as a senior than he was as a freshman. In fact, he never showed the ability to play his position that would be expected of a team contending for a national cahmpionship, yet he started all 4 years. obviously none of the scouts making the decision on who decides the players invited to the combine never saw him play.

It has been said several times that he was decent, if not good student, so he probably won't threaten Vince Young's marks.

He will do fine on the test, he isn't stupid. He may do well enough to find a F/A offer as an athlete and get a chance in a Matt Jones type role.

If the reports from each of the past offseasons are to be believed, no one on earth can scout him correctly. They seem to overrate everything he does in all of his workouts. He may go really high, come to think of it.

Yeah, the preseason hype every year was ridiculous. He isn't a QB at the next level though and teams will look at him for another position.

Theoretical headline after scouting combine.

Source: Luck no longer highest rated prospect ever, Jefferson emerges as can't miss prospect.

You'll click through to the story on say ESPN.com and Todd McShay will tell you why he isn't anything like Jamarcus. That McShay is so legit scouting talent.

"Way too much of the blame for what happened last year was put on Jarrett," Jefferson said. "He wasn't the reason we lost five games."

but... but... he's a bad teammate!

I see your point (though I haven't ever said he wasn't a "good teammate."). You know who else is a good teammate? Colt David. I don't want him throwing the ball to LSU receivers either.

is it his huge arm, impressive accuracy, or good footwork that leads you to this conclusion?

They threw an option qb in there for Denver's sake. :)

Must have been his performance in the BCS that got him the invite!

The easy explanation is that they think he can play a position that doesn't require him to throw the ball.

Wrong again. He was invited as a QB, not as a TE or WR.

So was Eric Crouch and I'm not sure what you mean by "again."

Will get a look elsewhere, not as QB. Never going to happen.

Matt Jones was invited to the combine as a TE. He was placed in the TE group. It looks like Jefferson is going to compete in the QB group. They are looking at him as a QB first it appears.

Who's with me?

I wouldn't put a penny on him getting a legit shot to make a roster as a QB. He is a better athlete than future NFL QB. It would take a miracle to turn him around in such a short time.
