So QB performance doesn't matter it is team performance that matters in your book?

Yes.

2008 LSU 8-5 <<<<<<< 2010 LSU 11-2

So you are claiming the difference in wins/losses is solely attributable to qb play?

really wanna make that argument?

So let JJ fubar the game, then hope Lee can save it for us. Really? This is your "logic"

JJ is better than Lee, except for the 2-minute drill imo. Lee usually does very well in the 2-minutes drill. If you ask me, it's because the ball has to leave his hands quickly and most teams back off pressure in the 2-minute drill to try to prevent big gains.

I disagree with that, to me they are equally bad.

Them being equally bad and Crowton being unable to hide their flaws with his play calling hurt LSU more over past 3 seasons than helped it.
I know there were times I would be at a game or watching a game on TV and I would see a QB do something you knew they were weak at and I would just mutter aloud, "WTF Crowton."

jj has his faults but no way should mett be even considered for the starting position after spring practice.

if miles started mett and we went 8-4 (in a year we are ranked #1 in polls) these same mett supporters would be asking for miles to be fired. again.

so we figured out miles isn't perfect, well neither is mac, or lil nicky, or stoops etc.

Which is exactly why I feel Miles is giving Jefferson the starting job because he is a safe choice, he knows what to expect from Jefferson. Mett even though he may be better is still a wild card, and even next year will be a wild card until he steps into a full game and performs. Cause I am not counting the final 8 minutes of a blow out as gaining much experience.

Haven't seen many blow outs with Jefferson, and even when they were, they were ugly.

Save for maybe auburn 2009

It's not by a wide margin IMO, very marginal. Only reason JJ is any better is because he doesn't break down under pressure quite as much. And he has the ability to run. Lee's the better passer but he can't handle pressure whatsoever.

Lets be fair: LSU lost at least 2-3 of those games thanks to our dynamic duo of DC's when Lee was QB.
We lost AU because we could not block AU, nor stop Cam Newton.

We lost Arky because we could not stop Davis.

Could it have helped us win for JJ to play flawless football? Yes.

But the same could be said for Lee in 08. 08 Lee would have lost us more than 2 games in 2010. He is, and always will be, a boom or bust guy.

JJ will not win or lose a game. JL is equally capable of doing both.

I can't wait till JJ and JL both leave LSU honestly

I appreciate all their hard work, but I'm just ready to see someone else starting.

Definitely. They're both good people and I wish the best for them always and past college, but I'm ready for some decent (or dare I hope for good?!) QB play. It's tough watching such a loaded team on both sides of the ball fail to win it all because of poor QB play. If we don't get it this year, I'll be very disappointed. But we have so much YOUNG talent that next year's team will likely be even more scary with Mett at the helm.

I'll be honest, I don't think it is an open competition. I think Miles knows what he has in Jefferson and he knows he is a safe pick to start the game. I don't think it is seniority I think it is familiarity that is winning.

Exactly. There is a case to be made for starting a senior on opening day against a high profile opponent on a neutral field rather than the new guy--even if you plan on using the new guy on a couple of drives during the 1st half of that game to see how he does.

I have actually gone on record as saying I think a senior like JJ should be given priority over Mett to start the Oregon game, allowing Mett to make a smooth transition like the kind afforded to Russell in 2004.

Is there an argument for the other side, that the competition in the fall should truly be "open" with no preferences for experience and seniority? Yes. Do I agree with it? Not really, but I'm not entirely opposed to it either. Is Les Miles likely to agree with it? HELL NO.

The entire rationale Miles seems to have for going with JJ in the first place, as many other people have pointed out, is that he gives you a very predictable performance with some running options. Miles wants his defense and running game to win for the team, and his passing game not to lose for the team. Thus, no open competition.

That's not to say that it isn't possible that Mett could outperform JJ so badly in summer camp that he gets the starting job anyway, but it certainly won't be an open competition. It will be a case of a groomed senior leader throwing away his starting spot on opening day.

Actually, I'm excited about pulling for both of these guys in 2011. LSU needs one of these QB's to put it together, and the season could really be special if one, or both, put it together.

Good QB play at LSU? Could be the college football story feelgood of the year.

LSU will need two QB's this year, as they did last. One isn't good enough. Right now, the competition is for the number two spot. Not the number one.

although fylnn was quite a bit better than jj, miles won a nc with a qb that was mobile and could pick up first downs with his feet and let hester and the defense win the game. he did not win a nc with russell who was a big arm por style qb with bowe, davis, and doucet at wr.

I have no problem with what miles is doing.
