Jarvis Landry is a beast in every sense of the word and is my favorite player on the team right now.

That said, there is no way he gets behind TCU's DBs on that deep route like Beckham did on the bomb he dropped. That wasn't an easy ball to catch either FWIW.

I wish it were that easy. It looked like he kept his eyes on the ball he whole way. It just seems that he has trouble catching balls while running. On one of his deep catches you can see that he bailed on the run to catch the ball without obvious interference from the defender.

yep. Beckham doesn't have that knack of using his body in the air to shield the ball from the defender. He is just not very good at playing deep balls. I'm not basing this on the TCU game only, btw.

But comparing him to Landry, who may be one of the best, if not flashiest, recievers in all of college football may be unfair. OBJ is more of an amazing athlete playing wide receiver. I would like to see Boone getting more targets.

I agree we have talented athletes but our biggest deep threat is 5'9''

best player on the team right now

I think the only other arguments are for OBJ (all around) and Jalen Mills - after the very small sample of 1 game. I would vote for Landry, as well.

Having said that, when 2 WRs are mentioned in this category - the QB is often being overlooked.

I agree with everything you just said. Been thinking the same thing myself. OBJ is very good at the things he does well, but catching the ball isn't one of them. Was hopeing that some other receiver was going to prove to be to good to keep off the field but it just hasn't happened. Thought that guy might have been Leslie but it seems he was a bit overhyped. Durel was supposed to be coming on and it still could be him. Haven't given up on Wright or Boone either, one of those two could take a big step forward.

Don't know if I understand your post, you were hoping that we had a receiver that would step up to keep OBJ off the field? Is that what you meant? If so, that's insane.

I don't think Leslie is over hyped, he's very skinny right now, I'm guessing he gets red shirted, but he will fill out, and get his chance next season.

I think Dural will start to be a major player in the passing game at the expense of Beckham. It certainly won't be at Landry's expense.

I see it the way you do. Beckham has the talent to be on the field but the guy catches inconsistently and it hurts us. Look at the Florida game from last year. He pretty much single handedly lost that game for us.

I would expect to see Dural step up.

You didn't. You're just being lazy with your critique of the OP. You know a lot about football so you don't need to be a smartass, especially when it doesn't even respond to what was being leveled about a guy who had a pretty good game on Saturday. Be better. I know you can be, and I want this board to be one where the fans show how knowledgeable they are--not where they repeat rote things that don't combat the point of view being put forward.

To be fair i said his hands werent very good, but you cant deny his ability to stretch the field which is a perfect compliment to Landry.

just think what his stats would have been if he'd had found a way to make a play on any of those long balls that fell incomplete.

That's impossible. If he'd of caught it, it wouldn't have been incomplete - just like the long ball he caught in the first half. Once he caught it, it became ineligible for inclusion in the body of work on which he is judged. Isometric exercise, man!

I don't deny it. I agree. He is also tremendously explosive in the open field. I would like to see him run some drag routes if that fits in with Cam's scheme. A running start for him would cause lots of problems for a defense. He would be one Jarvis KO block away from a long touchdown, imo.

I think we agree

My point in posting his stat line is i can deal with one bad drop if he puts up those numbers. And yes i only though one of the drops was really bad.

call me insane then. I was hoping some receiver was going to step up in fall camp and prove to be so good that his talent would demand a starting spot. Would have been great to have a reliable sure handed tall WR step up to go along with Landry and move OBJ into the slot.

I totally agree with the drop off! Odell has very suspect hands. Don't get me wrong the kid is a playmaker but if mett doesn't trust his hands it will be hard for the offense to get those big plays! SEC coaches watch plenty of film I guarantee you they notice his lack of sure hands. And the fact he was at Walk On's Sunday night getting absolute shite faced really bothers me... I know they have access to all facilities, go catch some balls in your spare time bro!

true that. If he just practiced 20-30 reps of over the shoulder deep route catches every day after practice and in his spare time would go a long way to making him a complete receiver. Also in offseason should have had someone heave bricks at him to catch to improve his hand strength, worked for Jerry Rice.

He also had 2-3 drops, one that would have been at the 10 if not a touchdown. He also had quite a few drops last season. I agree with the OP that he's average as a WR
