as a pure WR, there is a huge drop off from Landry to OBJ
No there isn't.
Beckham can run all the routes. He dropped a deep ball that was a tough catch to make, but he has all the tools of a pure WR.

OBJ makes some spectacular plays when the ball is in the air. He had one catch this past saturday that was one of the better catches I've seen a receiver make at LSU. He high points balls well and is aggressive in attacking them.
Beckham is good at route-running. I'll give you that. But, I've seen plenty enough of him at this point to know he is not above average playing the ball in the air.

ODB's drops came on deep routes as compared to last year when he dropped balls thrown to other receivers. He makes catches he shouldn't and if he can continue to do that and catch all balls 20 yards and in he isn't going anywhere
Also he is good after the catch and can block.

Early in the game. It was an out route, I believe. He highpointed the ball, caught it with a defender draped on him and came down on his butt with the ball still held high out of the reach of the defender.
Also his catch on that back shoulder throw to ice the game was a thing of beauty.

can't teach speed dude...there's a reason odell running those deep route's instead of landry. Landry will have more catches and touchdowns but odell will lead in yards and yards per catch by a mile.

he doesn't have the best hands, but dude is a playmaker. He compliments Juice well, imo.

quote:no argument here, but it wasn't a difficult catch. Mett threw it perfectly. That is a chemistry thing, though, so that is one positive he has over less experienced guys right now.

Look, Beckham is a very good player especially with the ball in his hands....but he does not have "elite" hands...he tends to drop a few catchable balls in just about every game...but he is still a very good player

Oh, I thought we were randomly posting nonresponsive statistics to the OP's critique.

I see where you're going with this, and I see the same faults with Beckham as you. What were Beckham's stats? What could they have been if he didn't have 2 drops, including a deep bomb near the goal line? Plain and simple, Beckham has to eliminate the drops, and his not running forward to fair catch a punt led to us being pinned on the 1 yard line.

yes that includes Odell Beckham
None of you criticism levied against Beckham makes sense. He just has more drops than anyone else on the team.

With Travin Dural now healthy and coming on in the X position
This cat dropped two (2) touchdowns inside the red zone. Wake me up when he starts "coming on".

But, just think what his stats would have been if he'd had found a way to make a play on any of those long balls that fell incomplete.
Do you know how hard it is to catch a football thrown long, while running full speed, with a defender right on you. That is a much easier catch if the defender isn't there and you can make some adjustments. Were they catchable....yes. Were they difficult catches.....yes. There is a whole lot of difference between catching a ball on a 10 yard route when the ball is drilled at you than when you are running full speed down the sidelines, looking over your shoulder with a defender right there.

How are Beckham's stats from saturday random?
Posted on 9/3/13 at 9:56 am to clamdip
Dural was not mauled, he dropped an easy TD.
OBJ will be fine. He dropped one sure long ball. Last year he dropped way too many.
