Inability to bunt cost us in the CWS. We're practicing it now early in the year.

Yeah there pitching was great because they didnt give up many runs.... because its so hard to get runs in that stadium now without sac bunting, stealing bases, getting guys in scoring position, etc.

Youre not going to see teams ripping the cover off the ball for 15hits and 9 runs like we are used to seeing in Omaha. And Im not saying that we cant win games by doing that. But with the new bats and field in Omaha, its set up for small ball. I dont think anyone can deny that.

Everyone knows homers are going to be down in the new ballpark, but we we weren't getting base hits either.

Yes we need to bunt in situations, but we need to string some damn hits together most of the time.
That ballpark ain't stopping singles from falling.
Our hitters went cold.
Their pitchers got hot.
It wasn't our year.

Bregman, Katz, Rhymes and Ibarra went 3-29 in the CWS. And Katz had all 3 of those hits. That is why we lost.

you can add the 2 errors against UCLA to that list as well.

Of course. I was talking more offensively though. It had nothing to do with not bunting enough.

I remember a bunch of well hit warning track outs, not just going cold at a bad time. Somebody correct me if I'm wrong my brain has purged most of the CWS memories.

exactly, this whole "you have to play smallball to win the cws" narrative is being wildly overblown. we lost because our best (really all) hitters were ice cold, not because we didn't bunt enough. UCLA won because they gave up 4 runs in 5 games, not because they played smallball.

There were some. But nothing was preventing anyone from hitting some balls into the gaps.

I suppose Manieri could pull a Saban and push for a rule outlawing small ball.

You mean like opposing the bat change and advocating for the ball change?

When I played baseball I bunted regularly because of my speed. Most of the time it was a base hit. What is wrong with bunting if it is successful?

There is nothing wrong with bunting, but LSU shouldn't do it because when you played you regularly bunted. When I played basketball, we 1-2-1-1 trapped all game and it was mostly successful. Get Coach Jones on the line.
