Someone talk me out of buying ther Acer XG270HU, or don't?

I know it's a TN panel, but reviews are really really good for it and specifically about the color clarity.

quote:

Impressions: Thin Bezel design is a plus. Very Lightweight and doesnt crowd your workspace. 1440p is simply beautiful on this LCD thanks to the 350nit brightness and Color Levels. At times it looks like an IPS

quote:

Pro's
144hz, 1ms response time and easy to setup.
Great Color replication

quote:

The color, contrast, and viewing angles are quite good for a TN panel, and the response time excellent.

quote:

It performs flawlessly under all circumstances. The colors are crisp and just as good as an IPS panel.

Viewing angles aren't a concern with how I would use it at my desk, and I tend to watch all my twitch streams and youtube videos, etc on my IPS 1080p second monitor.

Acer Outlet is now selling these refurbished for $399 too, with 1 year warranty.

I don't know... $399 is pretty good. The ASUS MG279Q (IPS 1440p) is $599. I'd almost want to spend the extra $200, but I'm wondering whether it would be better to just stick with TN at that refresh rate anyway. I'd like to see if there's noticeable ghosting with 4ms pixel response at 144fps. 4ms would be more than half a frame interval.

Exactly what I was thinking.

Isn't that the one that has a max 90Hz with freesync? No good for me.

Yeah, QHD 144Hz with freesync for my Fury X...seems like a match made in heaven. Wait another year+ for 4K, seems smart anyways given the lack of 4K freesync monitors and where 4K is right now overall.

Not necessarily, high quality TN panels can still look fine, which is why I was reading so many reviews on this one and they all rave about the quality of the panels picture even for TN, pretty much every critical review and user review talks about how great the panel is, and there are no freesync 144hz monitors that are IPS and probably won't be for awhile.

Tomshardware raved about the panel:

quote:

This is usually the place where we lament the lack of IPS panels in the gaming segment. With a few exceptions, TN is still the tech of choice for a fast screen. By using the latest AU Optronics part, however, Acer delivers one of the best twisted-nematic monitors we’ve tested. You won’t mistake it for IPS or VA, but it’s rare that we can see all of the dark steps in both the side and top-down photos. While the color shift is obvious, very little detail is lost when moving off-center in the horizontal plane. It's weaker vertically, but you can see the steps there too. You won’t have to feel like you’re settling for TN as much with the XG270HU.

Acer's XG270HU is your best choice at the moment. With stable 144Hz operation, excellent image quality, FreeSync and a reasonably low price, it easily earns our Tom’s Hardware Editor Recommended award.

I already ordered it, if it's terrible I'll just return it. But I am really, really hoping I like it.

I believe my ASUS Swift has the same TN panel, coming from an IPS I just hate the washed out colors. Images look awesome in motion.

Great price for the monitor though.

As for your Fury X, still in CA?

Edt: Really liking the design of the Fury X.

Main selling point really, that and no other solid freesync options.

TONOPAH, AZ this morning at 1am.

Yeah, it's maybe the sexiest card made to date, should look great in just about any case. I like the red led's on it too for I believe load percentage.

To date the 690 has been by far the coolest card I've owned. The cooler looks like its made from the same metal as other nvidia reference coolers but it is not. By far higher quality than all the TITANs, 780s and 780 Tis I've owned.

Saying that, this new Fury X really reveals that. I need to get it in hand to see. I bet it'll make an awesome HTPC card.

I have the XB270H (1080p G-sync version), TN as well.

The viewing angle is not great, but IMO, the colors are pretty damn good.

I like the fast response time of the TN panel myself.
Always smooth and fluid.

I would say it is a steal at $399, especially if Freesync works as well as G-sync does on mine.
