Doing a similar deal. Staying a few different spots on the island, Ubud being one of them for sure. We opted against the Four Seasons because there were other resorts that were very nice but a bit cheaper, which allowed us to get private villas at each spot. Had we done the Four Seasons we likely would have just gotten a regular room, which I'm sure is still nice.

You can't go wrong in Bali. Amazing place. Congrats on the wedding and please report back with trip details.

Oh, and I would definitely put New Orleans in the top five, behind NY, SF, and Chicago.

I'd agree with this. I think Chicago is getting a bit of a pass here but I'll roll with it.

I'll definitely post a review on the Travel Board. Just got back (literally just put down my bags) from Cuba - amazing trip and will put some time into a review tomorrow.

It may...to be fair my experience is limited. But my meal at Girl and the Goat ranks in the top 3 best meals of my life so that's immediately where my mind goes when I think of Chicago dining.

Don't get me wrong..love Chicago. Never forget when I first started getting into food and went to Charlie Trotters. I was in my early 20's, toured kitchen and it just blew me away. Girl and goat is fantastic. Can't forget what Bayless has done with frontera and topo

I would venture to say NYC has literally tens of dozens of places that blow August or Peche or Herbsaint outta the friggin water.

Several handfuls. Plus all the bodegas and street food vendors in Queens, that Lucky Dog just can't compare.

#1 for Best Indigenous Culture (and associated culinary experience), which causes it to move ahead of "Generic Metropolis 1-35" and into the overall top 5-10 IMO.

Houstonians have napoleonic complex.

And New Orleanians don't?

New Orleans is Charleston with a heavier drinking culture, for better and for worse.

New Orleans also lacks the overly friendly service industry folks Charleston has. I've been here 3 days now and it's like a warm hug every place we walk into.

I hate this argument. Houston is not in the top 5. Maybe top 10. Houstonians have napoleonic complex.

Name 5 that are clearly better

At worst they're 7. It has nothing to do with any complex and everything to do with the insane amount of great ethnic food.

Definitely Top 5, at least for me. I might even have it as high as #3.

I call bullshite on this "New Orleans doesnt have ethnic food" argument.

Maybe you should try leaving NOLA sometime

NOLA has a decent to above average variety of ethnic food but it just can't compete with much larger cities that have a much better variety.

You got me man, I have never left the 504. I'll try that and come back to comment. But why leave New Orleans when an Israeli restaurant in New Orleans won Best New American restaurant this year, there is killer Korean, amazing Vietnamese of all varieties, and a special yellow menu at Jungs? Not to mention Ethipioan, Indian, Thai, Japanese, Italian, etc... New Orleans has ethnic food, maybe not enough by some metric but it does have ethnic.

But travel, that sounds like a good idea.

On this board, ethnic variety is a plus. But for my part, given a choice between having all the ethnic options or just N'Awlins, I'll take N'Awlins all day every day.

Meh.. For a city the size of Houston, it's expected to have a variety of ethnic foods.. There's a lot of traditional ethnic food restaurants in little shopping centers or Belaire Chinatown or up and down Westheimer. But come on, Houston, for a city it's size, lacks innovation and creativity. Houston plays it very safe. Despite it's size, New Orleans still beats Houston as a culinary destination.
