Depends on circumstances, number of people etc... As much as I cook, I most often bring a supply of paper and plastic products including toilet paper and bottled water, to the home where most folks will be and/or the after funeral event will be. Later, I will cook food for my friends after the funeral food is gone and things have settled. People appreciate being remembered when the immediacy has worn off.

BBQ with buns for a crockpot and casseroles, all which can be frozen to be eaten later... well after the funeral when the family is worn down.

I smoked whole chickens this weekend in preparation for this. Friend said they had no room for additional food, so I will get it to the family later after things slow down.

Last time I cooked for the bereaved, I did a big pot of red beans and rice with andouille sausage and a whole bunch of corn bread. From what they told me, they loved it.

When my grandmother died, people sent different kinds of casseroles and lasagna, but the best thing people sent was a tray of chick-fil-a and a tray of sandwiches from Jasons Deli. That shows you really care.
