You spent that much at Maya's??? I'm surprised. I've been there a few times (albeit, at lunch time) and it was under $20 for me to eat there. I can't comment on how much their dinner menu is though but that price range really surprises me. Did you order booze/drinks when you were there??

I went to Delmonico for my 30th birthday a few years ago and had a tasting menu with wine pairings, before tip it was $370. Now this was a special occasion and since I haven't even been close to this. It was a serious experience though

I didn't pay for it but my birthday dinner for myself and my boyfriend was $367. Had we done the tasting menu and wine pairing, it actually would have been far cheaper, but to do the tasting menu, everyone at the table has to do it and not everyone wanted it.
It was the best meal I've ever had for sure.

ETA: The more I think about it, I thought that was so much money for a meal at the time (last October) but since then I've had meals in the same range and didn't think anything of it.

It was around $300, but I thought it was going to be a lot more.

It was at Morton's in Georgetown

Message Posted by Gaston $500, Stella! with tip. Wife's 30th, tasting menu and wine pairings with a few cocktails thrown in.

This is my high water mark, too. Totally and utterly not even close to being worth it.

That really sucks. A nice dinner with wine is one thing that I don't have any qualms splurging on, but it totally sucks arse when the food and/or service don't live up to the price tag.

It's worth it alright. Now I know I NEVER want to do that again.

My wife and I are big fans of Iron Chef and we wanted to eat that outrageous type of food at least once. It did not disappoint in outrageousness, that's for sure. Whether we actually like that type of food is a different story. I'd just prefer dinner with a nice app and a fish dish, I don't need slimy shite served in a hollowed out egg to enjoy myself.

A few years ago, I had wagyu beef at the Aragawa in Tokyo. It's in an office building basement so I initially thought no big deal, but the steak was 100 times better than anything I've had before or after. I did not pay, but it was very expensive.

We're talking Wagyu:Ruth Chris = Ruth Chris:Golden Corral (well, not quite that bad)

$450 at August with tip. Had 2 cold apps, 2 hot apps, entree each, dessert, bottle of Radio Couteau Pinot Noir, couple cocktails before and after, and some double espressos after. On top of that I had a round of drinks comped and an extra dessert on the house. If its still on the menu, their goat cheese cheesecake with a balsamic reduction was amazing and the tanginess of goat cheese made it feel much lighter than it actually was. Hands down between the service given, quality of the bussers and runners, and professionalism of that night being spot on, I would do it all over again. Worth every penny spent!
