re: Most Southern State

Georgia easily (or at least the best representative of the South) - not too far south - thriving cultural production (films and music) - has a major metropolitan city that is the de facto capital - not too trashy or poor overall (looking at you Miss.) - home to many fortune 500's - pr...
Big fan of Phosphorescent and the new album is solid. ...
I would say 1991-2001 were the better years, especially with the Varsity reopening in the fall of 91'. There were many nights when you had decisions to make between the Bayou, Chelseas, Murphy's on occasion and the Art Bar turned The Church turned The Spanish Moon. Not to mention -- old staples like...
Did this stuff really happen?
The material is based solely on the fictional novel of the same name. I don't recall any anecdotal stories or research about this coming out from the Vietnamese refugee community at that time. RDJ is a true master of his craft. I watched several of ...

The traditional "Hollywood System" model is changing, but the industry as a whole is hardly over. More filmmakers are making good TV ... RDJ for instance --- won an oscar and is also in an A24/HBO series in the same year. Consumption and production are evolving, but films are not going...

University 4 was the best. Broadmoor had its moments. I still remember seeing Trainspotting there in college. of course there were some great movies then ….. all of the real creative talent was making films —- not a million good TV shows. Way more of a balance and 2024 was hardly devoid of good...

I have to say I thought the first episode was very good and incredibly well paced. To be expected from PCW. The sets evoked 1970’s Saigon better than most, if not all American produced projects. I am biased by my fondness of the book and participation in the production. But still highly recommen...

The Sympathizer this Sunday

Early reviews are mostly positive …. Curious to see what the board thinks. The first three were directed by PCWook - and are breezy before it gets dark and more complicated. I hope people don’t give up on it midway....
My girlfriend is a reality personality (big Netflix show). She's not a celebrity by an stretch, but she does get recognized a bit ... she has real fans, so it's cool when they approach. ...

Some classics but standouts: - violent femmes 91 - Pearl Jam 92 - pj Harvey 94?- can’t recall exact year - rage vs the machine 93? (power went out for a bit so an acoustic set materialized) - fugazi 95 - bad brains early 90s - Wilco two night stand 2008 - Green Day 94 was fun ...
judas and the black messiah
Coogler didn't direct .... but was a very hands on producer. RE: Froman --- i'm guessing G+E ... And the new movie is filming around NOLA apparently. Should be fun. ...
I think you have to leave and live somewhere else for a bit to see how stagnant and depressing it can be upon return. I loved growing up in BR and living in NOLA, but the thought of moving back is not appealing to ME. But depends on what YOU want ... there is nothing I miss enough that I can't ge...

Start your morning with a pastry and coffee in Los Feliz, which is near the observatory. Head up for some nice views. Take Sunset down toward the Getty and have lunch along the route ... Hit the Getty early afternoon. More great art and views. Keep going and take in a sunset in Malibu or San...

Softest and lamest camp ever. Pistol Pete’s in Clearwater was the one. A heavy dose of Pete’s Ego, dribbling drills, religion, Press stomping around grouchy and diatribes about fast food. And no salt or sugar. Take that string music. ...
If you can dance to it … then it is music. If you cannot move to “ATLiens” or anything from Tribe, Digable Planets, the Pharcyde etc … then you need to reexamine what music is. ...
I cannot recall the last person I know that died on a commercial flight. Because it’s ZERO Such overblown nonsense. Now car wrecks —- we all have at least 5 or more people in our lives that were seriously injured or killed in a car wreck. ...
