Just out of curiosity, do you wear a jacket or tie to a high end place? Personally, I think not doing this is definitely related to manners.

have a friend who orders tuna well done, then complains about it being "dry and tasteless" when it comes out.
When we say something to him like, no shite dude you ordered it well done, he claims "I like it well done, thats why I order it that way"
Obviously not, tuna well done is going to be dry, makes me want to beat him every time he does it.
He is also obviously a well done steak guy, and will send it back until its just been absolutely charred to nothing, then complain about that and not eat it.

Sounds like you have a low class friend who likes to look for free meals when dining out.

I agree; however, I am not a "tie" person. I'm claustrophobic and I can't handle anything restricting but I do dress appropritely (jacket and slacks) whenever I eat at a high end place like Ruth's Chris or Galatoire's. Of course at Galatoire's it's not an option anyway.
The only dress code violation I really have an issue with is hats indoors or at the table. That being said, I guess you have to consider where you are... I visited a friend in Olkahoma City last year and he took us to Cattlemen's Steakhouse. I felt out of place because I wasn't wearing a cowboy hat in the restaurant or at the table. I wouldn't consider Cattlemen's a high end restaurant, but it was one of the best steaks I've ever eaten and both Bush's held functions there when running for president.

Hamburger at a Tex-Mex restaurant.

You would have loved the schmuck having lunch at August on Friday - God, I wish I could have snapped a photo.

The steak sure as hell didn't cost the same on those nights!

but with fine dining, anything other than wine or water to drink bothers me too.
I always feel a bit silly ordering diet coke at fine dining, but I'm not 21. I don't really think it's rude for me to not drink water just because I'm not old enough to drink wine. I think water is disgusting.
Granted, pretty much any fine dining restaurant doesn't ID so it's not an issue, but I don't see a problem with someone under 21 not wanting water.

How can something odorless and tasteless make you feel this way?

I hate water. Always have. And like I said, I'm not 21. I understand his sentiment on how common it might make someone look, but why should I drink something I can't stand just because I'm not old enough to order something else?
Like I said, most high end places have never IDed so it's not generally an issue. I suppose they see you're willing to spend money and don't ID. But nevertheless, water is not something I like and I can't drink legally.

I've never ordered one there, but have heard people rave about the one at Superior.

You don't have to have it when you go to eat, but from a daily health standpoint...

I've heard that too, but I know what he means. I used to have a friend that would order chicken tenders no matter where we were. One time, she got chicken tenders and a sugar cookie from a kid menu somewhere.
Also, I said this in another thread, but I get annoyed when people go to a Mexican restaurant (or hell, even taco bell) and get meat and cheese only on their food. (No grilled peppers, no onions, no sour cream, no salsa, no guacamole, no pico de gallo, etc.)
I know this is probably fairly normal, but it's always bothered me I'm a huge topping-person. I load my hotdogs, tacos, burgers, etc. with toppings.

Yeah I know. I force myself to drink it for a day every so often, but idk for some reason I DESPISE it. I really wish I didn't. I have been trying to cut back on diet coke and at least drink powerade and crystal light since they are both mostly water.

Also, there isn't a more boring sushi than plain sashimi. A slab of fish on a nugget of white rice?
That isn't sashimi. And to answer your question, I cringe when people complain about food they know nothing about.

in a thread of people concerning themselves with what others eat I find this the most perplexing statement.
I do get the tap water issue if the place has a certain taste to the tap water (looking at you Pensacola), but was this just an overall feel toward all water?

I kinda cringe when I hear people order a seafood platter. They're usually all fried, too filling, too many calories and very unhealthy.
You really should consider cutting back on Diet Coke. Carbonated drinks deplete your body of calcium and artificial sweetners like the ones in Diet Coke are being linked to Multiple Sclerosis.

I have no idea if this is correct, but I would be willing to believe it. My dad's wife went to the neurologist because of some headaches and he asked how many diet cokes she drank a day without asking if she did. The doc said that nearly all people he treats with tumors or strong headaches drink multiple diet drinks a day.
obviously that doesn't mean that everyone who drinks diet drinks will have trouble, but it makes you wonder.

Winner.
Y'all should eat with my grandma. She orders a 1/2 glass of your sweetest White Zin, then adds a packet of sugar.
