Not directed at you toof.

People on here like to complain that
A) New Orleans restaurants don't get enough recognition
And
B) that low key spots never win any awards.
New Orleans low key restaurant wins a national award and people here want to bitch. Unreal.

I like T and W. Its comfort food done really well for less than $15 per person. What's there to complain about? Is it really the best new restaurant in the nation? Probably not, but I'm not going to hate on TW for doing their thing and being successful.

I usually go for lunch between 11-12 and there is never a line. Maybe I just pick good days.

I also don't have a problem with the price. I pay $2-$4 less elsewhere for vastly inferior food on a regular basis.

Because people in New Orleans treat it as it is, a good spot to grab lunch. It's not what all of these articles are trying to portray it as.

I get Bon Appetit in the mail and one thing I've noticed is they love them some trendy shite. Conde Nast magazines in general, really. Turkey and the Wolf's personality fits right in with the trendy Ace Hotels and hipster casual restaurants these magazines love to feature.

They didnt call it the best restaurant in the country, they called it the best new restaurant in the country.

I remember about a year ago looking up the other restaurants that were nominated when Peche won its James Beard for best new restaurant. IIRC, of the 5 nominees, 3 have since closed.

I don't really think people are complaining. Just curious about garnering such recognition. I get the social media thing but they literally have the worst instagram page I've ever seen.

They also recognized that people would question them nominating a counteer service sandwich spot #1 and addressed that in the article.

quote:

After her own meal at Turkey and the Wolf, was she as infatuated with the place as I was? We ranked our finalists and read them aloud, alternating turns. When we reached No. 1, we both lit up. It was a consensus: Turkey and the Wolf was the best restaurant we ate in all year.

And then: panic. Were we prepared to call a quirky, nostalgic, counter service–only sandwich spot our No. 1 new restaurant in America? A place that serves what some might call, for better or for worse, stoner food? A joint with vintage Formica tables and kitschy cartoon animal salt-and-pepper shakers? A restaurant whose Instagram account is filled with head-scratching hashtags like #makesaladsnotyourbed, #eatbolognathenrideapony, and a bunch of others that we can’t print on this website?

We looked at each other and grinned. Yes, we were.

BR residents love to Instagram TatW. It's the new District Donuts on steroids for you guys.

Almost an exact quote via text to a BR friend..."it's two blocks from District Donuts so tourist will love the place"

They even get to walk through "the hood"

Yeah, I guess to some extent. I didn't know, or even suspect that, as to District Donuts, though.

I also didn't see the logical connection between tourists and T&W's proximity to District either - hence my quip.

It seems everyone that's comes in from out of town wants to meet up with me at District because they make amazing donuts....from what they have seen on insta

Their sliders and hot sandwiches are good. I usually bring my own coffee.

So you think most of the hype for the place comes from the wacky gram account?

Ive always thought the food was great. Maybe not best new restaurant great, but I dont get out much.

Comes from social media. Who doesn't want to pretend like they know the "in" restaurant

I think they have good food. Not best in the country food. But maybe restaurants sucked this year.

Meh. T&W is absolutely a really solid place. Not as solid as this award. But, you know, shite happens. Good for them for driving the hype machine. But frick their instagram account. That shite is terrible. It's that stupid youtube epic meal time bullshite in text form.
