A new bar with a focus on beer -- lots of beer -- is headed to Third Street downtown in just a short matter of time. Baton Rouge Metro Councilman John Delgado and his business partner Andrew Bayard have secured a lease for the space that was until Nov. 17 occupied by the 3rd Street Pub, which will undergo renovations before opening in about a month as The Draft House.

The new endeavor, which will be Bayard's and Delgado's third nightlife spot, will feature 95 beers on draft, plus "a substantial amount" of beers by the bottle, Delgado told NOLA.com.

"It will, by far, be the most downtown," he said of the beer selection. "It may be one in the top three of the city."

The change will be the second for the space in two years. It was transformed from Puncher's into 3rd Street Pub in the summer of 2013, although it never changed ownership. It also never seemed to draw too many crowds away from the other bars downtown.

It's suppose to be pretty sweet. Talked to one of the financiers on this bar and it sounded really cool. I'm looking forward to being able to get a decent beer downtown.

this is just too much

I don't know why bars insist on trying to get so many taps like its some kind of competition

just get 20 really good taps and keep rotating them

Sounds cool, but I wonder if it'll get enough business during the week to keep those taps fresh

that is the beer culture in BTR at the moment unfortunately. The feeling is that more is better since we need to give people choices. Really dumb imo.

Going to be lots of old beer in the cooler. The majority of the downtown crowd doesn't give crap about craft beer. That said, I wish it the best.

I heard the same thing last year.

Huey’s owner to open The Draft House in former Latil’s building

JULY 11, 2013

While local entrepreneur Andrew Bayard prepares for the opening this weekend of his new craft cocktail bar, Huey’s, he has also begun work on a second downtown venture—a draft beer concept bar called The Draft House that will open later this year in the first floor space at 326 Third St. that formerly housed Latil’s Stationery. The establishment will be just down the street from Huey’s and will occupy 3,000 square feet in the historic Latil’s building, which is owned by local restaurateur Andy Blouin and his partners. They acquired the 1920s-era building in 2011 and began renovating it earlier this year. Blouin will use 6,000 square feet on the second floor of the building to house a new reception hall and also his catering company, Edible Events. Architect Dyke Nelson, who is redeveloping several downtown properties of his own, is designing the space. “With the IBM building and the Commerce Building and all the other projects going on, downtown is finally becoming something,” says Blouin, whose growing portfolio of nightclubs and eateries includes Serranos Salsa Company, Blend, Boudreaux and Thibodeaux’s, and the catering company. The Latil’s building also has a second first-floor space adjacent to The Draft House available for lease. Blouin says he has talked to several potential tenants but has no deal yet. —Stephanie Riegel

Yeah, there are already 20ish taps in there without even having to renovate.

The bar in that place is awkward though, creates a choke point right by the door to the patio, really bad layout.

I thought the owner of Uncle Earls was opening this place..?

Isn't Bayard former GM of Happys?

Most likely won't. Even Thursdays downtown are sad.

But that owner has experience with downtown, so I'm sure he knows what he's getting into in that regard.

I agree there should be less taps. But honestly, I don't venture downtown enough to be overly concerned Even if it became a seriously legit beer spot, it would be hard to add it in my regular rotation.

I'll come out and say that this place won't last a year in that spot.

Hooray for a gazillion taps of old kegs!! The tap dick measuring contest among BR bar owners is absurd. Its almost like none of them actually drink craft beer.

I won't be happy until Avenue Pub opens up shop in BR and they clone Polly to run it. I've been told that's the gold standard for beer bars and everything else is for the peons.

Those cylinder kegs only hold about 40 pints maybe less with loss.

That's not very much.

Just think you'll be able to have access to more than 40 taps of every abita beer and BMC you can buy at any grocery store in Baton Rouge, all in one bar owned by a jackass. What fun!

Pretty much. Although once it is in BR it will have jumped the shark and no one in NO will be going there anymore.
