But walk in there any night that isn't Friday or Saturday. I've not only seen it slow; I've seen it with not one single patron.

The 1 time i've been in there was a Saturday and it was like City Bar Jr in there...

Here is my .02 and keeep in mind I have no dog in this fight.

in a town like Baton Rouge or even NOLA the craft nerd market alone is not enough to support a business like this consistently...I would think the novelty of having "95 taps" may pull in more casual beer drinkers...BUT only if they have a restaurant with good food and make it a fun atmosphere to watch football games/sporting events.

If they are truly going for a Beer Nerd type place I agree with most of the other posters that it would be better to go smaller, maybe 20 taps of really good stuff and keep them rotating weekly/bi-weekly.

I"m not up on the demographics of the area and not sure how much the area is really going to grow in terms of downtown residences in the near future, but I would say in a town the sizes of BR or NOLA this would be a big risk without the restaurant piece

Exactly why I frequent Chimes and Chimes East.

Can go for just a great beer or mini-tap takeover or can go for a meal with family and still get all of those great beers if I want them. You don't see me in Strictly bars all that often. I've got a touch of the old man syndrome too though.

For sure.

But that's 2 nights a week. Like I said yesterday, I don't know the overhead for a craft beer bar vs. a regular bar, but if it is substantially more, can they sustain it when they won't have business other than 2 days a week?

Completely agree. I would totally drive downtown for something like that. Make a trip of it.. good food, watch a game, drink beer.. hell yeah.

But to have the same atmosphere as the bars already down there and just a little better beer selection? Nah. It won't be worth the drive/cab fare for me.

I think the startup money they have plays a lot into atmosphere too. If they're looking to break away from the vibe of other downtown joints (4 walls and a bar), that's gonna take money.

I WILL say I think it will be great to have the place as an option for people already downtown (especially people dragged down there by friends ).

I agree. It sounds like this place wants to be more of a night club two nights a week and attract the beer nerds for a few beers during the rest of the week. In my observations, the typical beer nerd would rather drink a beer in a quieter, low-key environment where they can socialize while tasting and smelling their beer without the sensory overload of being jostled by a crowd and blasted by music. I also agree that if you're going to try to appeal to a more diverse crowd, you probably need to serve food. Is there room out front/back for food trucks? They could schedule a different food truck for each night of the week.

One of the problems with 95 taps for the beer nerd crowd is that the good beers get lost in the crowd with all the BMC stuff.

Maybe there is a way to separate the rotating stuff from the full-time lineup. That rotating stuff is what's going to attract the beer nerds and they will probably drink off that list 90% of the time anyway. They can have a menu for the regular lineup and then have a separate menu for the "rotating" or "seasonal" taps.

Seems like you got a lot of 'em up in Monroe. At least as far as I can tell from watching cable TV...

I would have thought he heat and humidity of Louisiana would make it impractical...

Maybe you can settle for one of those 3D Lizard haircuts...

Haven't shaved all November, seems to be popular in the FBD community along with FT's porn stach.

Me either.

In fact, I haven't shaved in years, just trimmed. But my dad couldn't grow a beard until well into his 30's, so I'm probably screwed out of being a true maven for a few more years. Damn genetics.

You don't need a beard to be a maven, if your bartender has a righteous beard (or a handlebar mustache)...
