Isn't $30 on a $120 tab 25%?

Eff all the waiters who think they deserve for you to drink.

I didn't think you could use a giftcard on the tip - maybe that is a restaurant-specific policy though.

Could be restaurant-specific. I used a gift card at Ruth's in BR once and tipped on it.

Robert Roth across the shopping center from Goodwood Hardware. Just down from Cafe American. Talk to Robert, Mooie or Patty.

I was just responded to his posts not you. Just happened to be behind it. He states 30 is more that 15% which I took to mean he is tipping 15%.

I don't care what he tips, I'm not waiting his table.

Thank god.

This. I used to work there; they let every motherfricker under the sun into that joint.

Not sure if you eat at upscale restaurants often (you posted like you don't), but please don't go in there being nitpicky and looking for reasons to tip less than what they deserve. You have $150 free money to a great restaurant, for crying out loud! $30 of your own won't hurt you.

Not sure what this has to do with the OP. The poster is probably a young guy (we assume) but why the hell go straight to the "tip well" shite? WTH is that? If he spends the $120 and tips $30 thats 25% or so. Hell it don't take many trips to a table at RC to run up a $120 bill. He never insinuated he would stiff the waiter during this outing. He asked a question then was bashed for something it was assumed he would do. This board has literally gone to shite and does not serve the purpose it once did.

Completely agree poche, the guy comes and ask what to expect as he has never been there before and gets accused of being a jackass. And who said it was free money? How do we know the gift card was not in exchange for work he did or something similar

And on a different note, why he hell can't I tip with a gift card? How is it ant different to the restaurant than paying with a cc? Had it happen to me once and I refuse to go back to that restaurant

I liked this board much better when we actually discussed cooking instead of being a restaurant reviewing and bitching board

The OP did say this earlier in the thread:

quote:

I won't be tipping more than 30$ for two people that's cray cray

That being said, it could be taken differently by anyone.

30$ on a 150$ tab, would be OK. 30$ on a 300$ tab would be poor.

I have no dog in this fight, just saying that the OPs choice of words could have been a little better there.

This is the OP.. Yes , I did earn the gift card . and Yes I am in my early 20's.. I dont see why tipping 30 dollars on a 150 dinner for two is considered cheap. Regardless if its a gift card . My original request was for those who had been to Ruths Chris to tell me how it was.. not to bash about tip. But its cool! sticks and stones! Geaux Tigers

Never trust a waitress to tell you what a fair tip is.

To the OP, Ruth's is a top restaurant in Baton Rouge. Anyone who says otherwise has their head to far up their arse to differentiate between a good choice filet and shoe leather.

It's Ruth's Chris and it has been located exactly where it is now since TJ Moran bought the first franchise from Ruth Fertell.
