Starting tomorrow I am going to make it a point of cutting out breads and pastas from my diet. It's what I did when my friend's wife forced us to do advocare and I did lose a bunch of weight. The only problem when I did that program was they also wanted you to cut calories by so much that I just gained everything back after the 21 days or whatever it is.

So let's see how I do without breads/pastas/beer etc but still keep the calories at a livable level for a 22 year old guy.

Benchwarmer how tall are you btw if you're trying to get to 150? I don't even think it's possible for me to be at that weight unless I'm almost dead.

In a week, the 10 pounds I gained over the 4th has come back off. Granted, most of that was all water weight, but still...it's nice to be back to where I was.

That's very heavy at a lean 5'10". Not saying you're not in shape but that's not typical if that's what you mean.

I'm 5'9" and stay between 150-155.

Maybe he carries a lot of muscle mass. I have a very defined six pack at 155.

Yeah I've always been a ball of muscle. BMI usually has me nearing obesity even though I'm in perfect good health.

Well I guess was in perfectly good health, that's why I'm in this thread because I haven't been that low in 4 years.

few questions for y'all (skip to the bottom)

backstory:
in 2011 I used P90x, a beneficial work project, and better eating habits to drop from 212 to 160. I maintained it throughout 2012. I used my wife's pregnancy as an excuse to start eating crappy again and I never did like working out anyways. At the beginning of June I was back at 199, and we started a P90X/Insanity hybrid schedule I had been doing when I stopped working out before. The idea was to have 3 days of cardio, 2 of resistance, and one of stretching/yoga

I've gone back to watching my caloric intake (I usually take in about 1500 per day now, well, during the week anyways, the beer adds some on the weekends) and the weight is coming off again, though much slower this time. I attribute some of that to work not being as strenuous as it was the first time. But I'm also wondering if my diet is right

1. Could I be taking in too few calories and would that hinder weight loss?

2. I'll never be "slim", I've never been built that way, but I don't really want to add muscle mass, just slim down again. Should I stick with more cardio/less resistance for that goal?

thanks

Headed in the right direction again.

1500 with the amount of workouts your doing may not be adequate. If you're feeling tired/lethargic/burned out very quickly during workouts, try increasing your calories. If you feel fine, stick with what's working. It's also possible that your metabolism has slowed down since 2011, depending on your age.

2) If you're in a caloric deficit (specifically a pretty steep deficit like 1500 cals/day), you won't put on much muscle mass, if any. If you prefer lifting, then do that. If you prefer cardio, then do that. The best workouts for fat loss is HIIT, but it's all about what you enjoy doing and will stick with.

Lean meats, fruits, veggies, nuts, avocados

Cut way back on breads, cut out sugars

Drink coffee, water, unsweetened tea

Occasional protein bars

doesn't look bad, but there could be a few things here or there that are slowing the process down.

like how much bread & fruit. And what you put in your coffee.

also not exactly sure what your workouts are, but you could be building muscle, and losing fat. thus kinda of stalling your weight loss.

When you get to where you want to be, don't go back because it gets harder to lose weight and the process is slower the older you get.

Above is the truth. 2 years ago I went from 234 to 200 in 4 months.
It won't come off that fast this time.

I'll take five pounds in two weeks. The frustrating part though is the fact that both weekends I've been trying to lose weight I've heavily binge drank. One was the fourth of July so I'm not mad about that but last weekend I got super drunk and ate Jimmy John's, so I've put myself behind the 8 ball both Mondays. Let's hope this weekend is better.

In other news I have been "working out" by walking 3 miles a day but decided to switch it up yesterday to these body weight exercise programs and my legs are absolutely killing me today. If you want to check them out go to this page and take a look around. I'm doing the lowest level of '30 day cardio blast','Hero's Journey' and 'Total Ab Program'. They have a bunch of fun little programs and I think all of them just require body weight exercises so anyone can do them.

ETA: I don't think my legs have felt this sore in years. Might have to just stretch and walk this weekend and pick back up on the programs listed above on Monday
