Wife and I are getting one night in D.C. in the middle of May. Upscale or casual - doesn't matter to us. Been doing some research and been coming back to either Komi or one of Jose Andres' places (Jaleo or Zaytinya)...but we are open to all suggestions.

Where would you go?

Call the White House and see if you can get the Moose to offer you a spot at her table and get some of her fresh produce from the South 40.

Bossfloss had a fine trip a while back. He'll hit this for you before long.

Komi is a much different experience than the other two. It only serves a set tasting menu.

Jaleo and Zaytinya are great, but more casual and less expensive. If it was a bigger group, I'd say either of those. Since it is just the two of you, I'd go to Komi. It is worth it.

Zaytinya was awesome. Can't speak on your other options (it is tapas, so it lends itself to larger parties, though).

Jaleo was excellent. But if I am doing one night in DC and want a meal downtown, I'm going to Old Ebbit. It's very good.

But if you want to try Andres' places definetly Jaleo over Zaytina, and American Eats if it's open.

I did a special meal at 1789 and really enjoyed it. Menu looks a little different, but I assume they didn't change the historical ambiance. Good suggestion here?

Dude, no. Old ebbitt is good for what it is, a glorified chimes type place but it would not be a one stop restaurant.

Jaleo and Zaytinya are solid and affordable. Graffiato is good too.

Shell out some dough for Inn at Little Washington or Rasika.

Agree that Old Ebbitt is not exactly a destination dinner. Food is fine, but absolutely nothing memorable or special.

I love Jaleo, but it's a bustling, noisy space...fun if you like to people watch, not so fun if you want to hear each other or be remotely private.
