This is in our new house... Never heard of it before we saw the house for the first time.
Anybody know anything?

Congrats, but it looks like you have a ghost in your oven.

Roasting rooster feet.

It looks alright. Probably 15k Btu out of each, the middle is the simmer burner? Is it dual fuel, self cleaning?
You better hope it works for a while since replacing it with anything worthy will be about $5000.
ETA: DON'T use anything abrasive to clean it, ever!

Looks nice. I'd like to dirty it up.

I would ask the builder or whoever you bought the house from where he purchased it and does anyone local service them. As long as you have a local firm you should do fine.
I have a large Viking and I love it but like anything from time to time I've needed something done on it ie..convection fan...igniter. Nothing major but Appliance Distributors sends Bud right out and it's done. That in itself makes it worthy.

Dunno...
Middle burner has 2 rings, and seems to kick the most arse.

On my range the two ring burners are the ones that actually go down to the lowest heat setting, making them the 'simmer' burners. It can put out very little heat which is real nice for a gas range. I think all of my burners, though of different sizes, put out the same Btu - which is kind of odd. You'd be lucky if that middle one got above 15k...once you experiment with boil times you'll see they're all probably the same. Just made for different size pots. Your's looks a bit different though (if those are all full blast).
See how low that center burner will get.

quote:I agree that getting a gas range with consistent low heat is a challenge. I put a Blue Star range in my kitchen a couple of years ago. It probably has the highest output burners you can get (2 of the 6 are 22K btus), but I need/use consistent low heat far more regularly.

That's the brand I'd buy if I had to replace my 36" range. I think they make the best product. Our wok would love 22kBtus.

Thanks for tghe info in here. I'd like to upgrade my 36" someday.

If you get one, get the cooktop only, not the combo with the oven. Cooktop is the best I've ever used, it's basically a commercial cooktop. Simple, not a lot of fancy features, but consistent and bulletproof. The oven is problematic. Door seal problems, fan (it's convection) is loud, etc.

Well, thanks again. I'll need the combo. Who has the best 36" out there?

what do you want to know?
Electronic controls are similar to Miele and Dacor ovens. Gas controls are like Dacor and Thermidor. But without the burner surface area.
The ones with the auto control simmer have issues with the potentiometers going out if they get too much humidity or liquid in them.
The ovens are solid. The thermostat is an older design and should last well over a decade.
High end ovens usually have little issue other than electronic failure or a break down in a solid state device.
or ignitors. But here is a word of advice on those...
All ovens use one of only three types of igniters. Get the GE W2x9998 which is usually around $20-30 rather than the Viking, or other high end igniter it recommends (when it fails) the GE is actually the best made on the market and fits any unit.
(that uses a square ignitor some GE and Whirlpool use a round igniter)
All igniters serve only two purposes. Create enough heat to light the gas, and the draw 3.2 Amps of current to open the gas valve.

Oh shite, you can spend a fortune. Vikings can be $12k for a 36", Wolf probably close at 10 or so, Thermador, Decor, American Range for 8+...

Viking.
Buy it now, and your grandkids or great grand kids will still use it later on.
They are super simple and have little flaws.
Thermidor is my second pic but if the star burner gets stuck on, good luck finding someone to work on it.
I like Dacor for wall ovens, but their control boards seem to crap out right at the five or six year mark.

Thanks. I looked at some models a few years back. Getting the itch again.

Well, jeez... You are an expert.
Sounds like it is one pay grade above the mass produced store brands... middle of the pack of the second tier.
Any idea what the oven control settings are? The indicators are symbols that must make sense to euros.

I looked at em all, and I bought a BlueStar.

different flame settings. Like broil, bake, convection, etc.
Let me see if I can find a guide.
