I buy 2 gallons a week and have all of my adult life and as a kid my family had Bordens delivered twice a week. I buy all different brands including Kleinpeters and I can honestly say I have never had milk spoil on me unless it was left unrefrigerated.

We rarely have an issue with milk going sour, we go through 2 gallons very quickly, have two children, and this is the only drink I will have besides water.

Horizon has a crazy, long shelf life. I do not want.

Call them up or send them an email. I had the same issue within a two month period (whole gallons going sour before the expiry date) and sent them an email. The next morning someone from Kleinpeter called and came to my house with a fresh gallon. He tested my fridge temp. and explained that he would also check with the truck that delivered it as well as the store.

Made me feel better at least that they were looking into the issue.

The reason for the long shelf life on Horizon milk is that they pasteurize at near boiling temperatures which is much higher than normal milk.

This apparently gives the milk a longer shelf life and better temperature tolerance.

checking the fridge temp is to cover their own arse if you get sick. If it doesn't meet their criteria they aren't at fault.

You would know if your fridge was the problem.

arse backwards hoss. Most of Kleinpeters milk comes from other farms far outside of this state. I believe 30% percent was the number I heard from their cows however that doesn't make a shite because it's mixed in with the rest.

So, I can't offer help with the quality concerns, but I can clear up some misinformation about milk supply.

Kleinpeter's own farm in St. Helena Parish coupled with about 30 other local dairies satisfies up to 80-90% of demand. Outside milk is shipped in to make up the difference when needed.

Also, some people commented about pus in milk - pus is called a non-milk solid and is most commonly white blood cells. It's completely natural for it to be in milk, but all of that is filtered out before processing and pasteurization.

Yep, Milk tastes metalic or like plastic before the sell by date. My family changed to Shurfine, same problems. Then the store, we shop at, changed to Shurfine milk made in Hammond vs. Shurfine made by Kleinpeter. Havent had any problems since.
The manager at the store said Kleinpeter's sell by date on the milk is 5 or 6 days to long.

That was a nice thing for Kleinpeter's to do. I'd think the last thing they'd want, is to sell subpar milk. I'm pretty sure they've seen this thread and it probably wouldn't be smart for them to post in it, but I'd really like to here what Kleinpeter has to say about all this.

I posted on their webpage and they asked for my contact information and had a rep call me. He was very nice on the phone, but basically just made some lame excuses about changes in the production workforce that they are trying to fix. They offered to exchange my bad milk but I had already thrown it out. Who keeps bad milk anyway? Beyond that, nothing was done. I'd prefer to buy local dairy so maybe I'll have to start going to the farmers market or something? For the time being, I am buying Horizon.

I thought it was a fluke when I first started opening new jugs that were sour. I stopped buying it and buy a variety of other brands. Mainly, I look for what appears to be the freshest date and buy that.

Several possible contributing factors: refrigerators at grocery stores and convenience stores Kleinpeter claims aren't kept cold enough; company employees that haven't been performing up to par; and older equipment in the plant that could have been harboring bacteria and needed replacing...Kleinpeter says there is another contributing factor: Customer expectations are so high—given the brand's reputation and higher price—that they feel it should not be having these problems

Customers have every right to have the expectations they do. I understand it's a highly perishable item, but that doesn't mean you shouldn't have QA/QC measures in check within your system or drag your feet and continue to sell a sub par product. I stopped buying Kleinpeter milk several months ago. I discovered almond milk and have been very pleased. I won't ever be going back to Kleinpeter milk or butter.
