Has anyone else noticed Kleinpeter milk tasting different lately? (not in a good way) Did they change something? I've been a kleinpeter milk fan for years but the last two gallons I've bought taste different than the usual.

How so? Right from the store, or closer to the expiration date?

Dont know about the taste, but we've had issues with their milk expiring early (7-10 days before date) and the seals on their gallons of milk leaking.

Yeah, it's been going sour well before the date stamp.

Just doesnt taste as fresh, even when I first open the jug. The seal was in tact.

Don't know about the milk, but the Kleinpeter ice cream was a huge disappointment. I'll stick to Blue Bell.

This started when they moved their farm and their cows to St. Helena parish in 1997. If anything it's gotten worse since then. I stopped buying Kleinpeter years ago and have had good luck with the Shur-Fine house brand carried by the Associated Grocers. I don't know who makes it for them, but it lasts usually well past the expiry date.

have had issues occasionally with them. We had to bring a couple gallons back to the store a few times

Would buying the generic store brand of milk be just as good as buying a name brand?

Bought some Kleinpeter Chocolate milk and it went bad in two days. This has happened twice. Will not buy any more products with Kleinpeter on them.

I have no clue. Adults shouldn't drink milk.

I have a friend who is a toxicologist. She was involved in a study about 5 years ago where they were analyzing all available milk products in Louisiana. She said Kleinpeter was far and away the "cleanest" milk available when it comes to puss content and a list of other common contaminants. I realize this study is now dated, but relevant nonetheless.

Kleinpeter has been buying milk on the open market for years: it is not strictly a locally farmed product. Some portion of the milk is local, but on any given day, it's coming from who-knows-where.

If you want strictly local, you've got to buy Smith's (which is packaged by Kleinpeter, but produced by Smith's grass fed cows) or Progress Milk Barn (the Mauthes'). Progress is available at farmer's markets and a few retail outlets.

I've looked at the Smith's brand a couple times... Have any of you tried the milk from the Feliciana parishes? I got a half gallon one time and it was good. I found it at Alexanders...
