I can't think of the name of it. Anyone know. For whatever reason, I was thinking it was on Magazine.

Artz but the new spot on magazine is the donut & slider place. They might have bagels.

I don't think they do. Steins, next door, has bagels, but doesn't make them in house. They're pretty much always really fresh, though.

Artz is the only place I know in NO that makes their own.

Thanks. I think they were looking for sort of a brunch place around Magazine and that's all I could think of...the bagel joint.

Yeah. That's too bad.

Just grabbed this from the NOLA story.

With the end of Artz, New Orleans currently lacks a dedicated bagel bakery. But on Ash Wednesday, a crew was busy working on Humble Bagel (4716 Freret St.), which is scheduled to open by the end of the month.

At least we'll have a bagel shop on Freret.

Used to pick up a pack from Rouse's. Thought that Rouse's quit stocking them temporarily to make room for king cakes. Sad; they had a good product that isn't really available in NO.

I'm in the same boat, disappointed that I didn't get to try it.

Saw that earlier. fricking sucks. That was the only good place to get a decent bagel in this city. Doubt I'll drive all the way over to Freret for a bagel, unless for some reason they turn out to be damn good and not akin to the truly terrible Pepperidge Farm packaged ones.

Weird about Artz, it was always packed every time I went or drove by.

When I would go in the mornings, it was mostly always empty, but they seemed to have a pretty steady stream of people coming in and out.

Funny, last time I was there (couple of weeks ago), so was the mayor. Surely didn't seem on the verge of shutting down. Although, come to think of it, it always seemed there were at least two or three people standing behind the counter there doing essentially nothing.

I only ever had 2 complaints about the place.

1 / their bagel & lox was too expensive

2 / they didn't open until 7am

i remember seeing that a couple times, but the majority of times I went there was either already a line or one formed behind me after a minute or two.

The article stated they tried to open a shop on Baronne in Warehouse Dist. and it closed after one month. They also stopped selling to grocery stories like Rouses. Maybe took a chance on the other store and failed miserably.

Closing up shop after one month is unusual.

I know the owner. Real good dude. Saw him Saturday, he said 2-3 weeks and they'll be open.
