I'll play along. I'm just shy of 6'1" and 50+ years old. In the picture on the left, I'm 205 pounds with 23% body fat. Four months later in the right picture, I'm 170 with 15.6% body fat. (At least according to my Tanita bathroom scale)

How much do you weigh? I can't picture this. I'm almost 5'11" too and wear a 38R or 40R. When I weighed almost 30 pounds more than I do now, my jacket size was a 42R or 44R.

I weigh 195. I don't think my frame is a lot different than many from CenLA or South LA when I came out of high school in that there are a lot of guys who were ~ 5'7" to 6' that played sports and were fairly wide. Invariably, for long sleeve shirts or jackets, alterations occur. Can't tell you how many pullover fleeces, etc I have with rolled up or altered sleeves as smaller chest sizes don't work. I look at some higher end layered clothing for winter activities and see guys posting that are 6'3" 175lbs that are wearing medium to large and it is just WFT??? Definitely frame differences, height doesn't matter unless including frame width.

If people want to have some fun they should look at the police blotter for the Waco biker shootings and guess weights looking at the faces. It is like 40-50% of the guys weigh 200-240 lbs, not saying they are fit or other, but most are like 5'8" to 6'.

Gross? Are you talking about the before or after picture? Why?

Like most things in life, it depends. If you wear a 40 jacket or 38" pants maybe so.

Sounds like what we always referred to as stocky or cornfed which is someone with a good bit of muscle on their frame but also a lot of fat as well.

How are you measuring body fat?

I'd have guessed you were more than 23% in first pic

Good for you. Not that you're old, but I know that a transformation like this is harder when you're no longer a 20 something.

That's the darn truth.

The "just need to get to the gym" plan absolutely does not work. Have to cut back on the eating as well once you hit a certain age.

Diet is WAY more important no matter what your age.

yeah I work out plenty enough to be more lean but with my job there's no way I'm eating like I should...I really don't care if I'm more lean either

.....just ate 4 chili dogs for breakfast at work after I ate a "healthy" breakfast before leaving home

I'm 5'9", 225lbs. obese by all charts, but I was ~305lbs several months back (didn't take a true before pic, just this one at 290 after a few weeks of dieting). Here's an older progress pic. Been slowly recomping but stuck in that 225-228 range.

Recent pic: Arms have gotten very lean, still working on stubborn midsection.
