I got snookered yesterday. Tostitos stopped selling chips with cayenne so I started looking for another product. Found a box of triscuits that said 'Red Pepper'. Bought it and when I tried one it didn't deliver any heat at all. Checked the ingredients. "Red Bell Pepper"

I once almost bought some frozen catfish filets because I was craving catfish. the bag was emblazoned with a large American flag and the name on the bag said something like American Seafoods, Inc. In small print on the back of the bag was the disclaimer "Product of Vietnam."

I was snookered recently by Seagram's ginger ale. It has no obvious marking on the label or packaging to indicate a sugar substitute is used....only after drinking one & having a migrane did I learn that it's full of sucralose. I wish that labeling requirements forced every fake-sugar-containing product to be prominently labeled.

So you weren't mislead you just didn't read the box. I've had to really start reading labels for sodium and you would really be surprised what is in prepared foods. Sometimes "low sodium" items are low compared in phrasing only. And of course I always carefully inspect packaging on crawfish tails as I only buy La tails.

The only ones I've seen with red pepper or the brown rice roasted red pepper with the red bell peppers on the front of the box. Which one did you buy?

Probably the most misleading product in LA groceries.

Actually sad that local grocers carry their product.

There aren't 2. There is only 'red pepper/roasted/brown rice' which has a picture of a red bell pepper but I looked at the text not the small pic of the bell pepper.

There is no triscuit with Cayenne. At least my store doesn't have any and I checked this morning. If the text were honest it would say 'Roasted Red Bell Peppers'.

I don't know, Zach, but when I saw the flavor ws roasted red pepper with a big picture of red bell peppers with some char on them, I knew it was red bell pepper, BUT what's misleading is that it actually just has "red bell pepper powder" in the ingredients. Not even "roasted" red bell pepper powder. That's misleading.

Not so sure about misled, when i'm at the store and can't find farm to table green onions, i always check the packaged green onions to make sure they are US product, not Mexico. Mexican produce has been known to use human waste as fertilizer.

red pepper is usually bell pepper in most things.

If it's Cayenne or chili it will say Cayenne or chili.

You are correct...it is red bell pepper powder, which carries no heat at all.
I even tried buying chips and sprinkling cayenne on them myself. But it really needs to be baked into the food.

My favorite fried chicken was Walmart's 'Cajun' which had a lot of cayenne. 10 years ago they stopped selling it. I asked why. They said people weren't buying it because they didn't like red pepper. Bunch of wusses.

I bought a frozen lasagna once because the packaging made it look delicious, and it sucked.

Maybe try cutting tortillas into chips then brushing with some butter or olive oil then sprinkling them with seasoning of your choice and baking until done.

What about the way meat is packaged? I've bought a tray of boneless pork chops (not labeled that way) that turned out to have a ton of bones underneath.

Or buying a split chicken and finding giblets hidden in the package.

I know this is a crummy response, but all advertising is false and misleading. Never met an honest ad person.

I also can't stand the fact that they've decreased the size of packaging ever so slightly, so you don't notice, but still charge the same price. Examples are

tuna
coffee
canned soup.
