Artie, you "par cook" or blanch the crabs quickly to kill, and then clean, them.

I've never tried this...I've just always held down the pinchers and ripped the carapace off, cleaned, cracked in half and then cooked.

My seafood place is out of boiled crabs.
I'll call again tomorrow.
If they're out, I'm gonna run some crab traps after work.
I'm on a mission now.

Holy shite, that kid sucks at picking crabs. That's unreal. My mom would punch me in the face if I was that useless.

Ive never seen her raise a hand to anyone, but she's from Abbeville and if I picked crabs like that kid I may just get one in the jaw.

I've grilled crabs before. I threw them on a hot charcoal grill live upside down, closed the lid for a minute, then removed them from grill. Cleaned as usual, but didn't break in half. Basted with butter, lemon juice and seasoning when they were back on grill. Came out better than expected.

I keep wanting to do crabs similarly except wok fried in spicy oil, like you see on some of the travel shows. You normally see it done with larger species of crabs but if anyone has experience doing this with blue crabs, I'd love to hear it..

Blanch, clean, deep fry, season, toss in clarified butter, eat.

Well yeah, thanks, that's the gist. Guess, we'll just dismiss the specifics rather than talk about it...

So my family boils crabs similar. We almost always clean the crabs live and boil them that away. The meat gets season a lot more and its much easier for everyone to eat. Sure its a pain in the arse for the cook but usually its my dad and myself and we just sit outside drinking beer until they are all cleaned. Usually by the time we boil we are half lit.

I much prefer the crabs this away. I will have to try the grilled trick though as it looks and sounds awesome. I have had them similar to the OP but not with all the butter. We just cleaned and grilled quickly as an app.

I had crabs and lobster like that in Honduras once, never made it myself though.

Looks good. I do love crab.

Mom and dad both from Abbeville and live there again. I'm not a Broussard, though.
