Remove the top shells and clean the crabs. Season with lemon pepper and place on the grill (low heat) bottom down. Squeeze butter on top and cook for 15 minutes. Flip the crabs and cook for 5 minutes. Flip crabs again, squeeze more butter, and cook for an additional 10 minutes. Serve with melted garlic butter. You may never boil them again.

I saw that too and it looks delicious but I think they're cooking them too long in that recipe. I guess it depends on how low the low setting is on your grill.

I don't. It seems like a huge pain in the arse. What about the claws? I assume you have to at least crack them? Have you ever "cleaned" fresh crabs?

How many grills do I need to grill a bushel of crabs?

ETA: Do that with king crab legs. It's easy and delicious. Blue crabs? No.

Well, they don't come apart as easy as the boiled/steamed ones. I could absolutely see trying this for a few people or as an app. But if I'm going to get dirty eating some crabs I am going to get dirty dirty.

Artie, you fat son of a bitch.

I've done them on the green egg. They come out good.

Dipped in garlic butter, it's a nice change from the heavily salted/seasoned crabs we usually have.

Artie, you "par cook" or blanch the crabs quickly to kill, and then clean, them. We have a place up here that does this, a/k/a bbq'd crabs...but they fry them instead. They are excellent.

Don't blame me that you never learned to properly cook crabs. Blame your pow pow.

This makes perfect sense. And I do not doubt for a minute that blue crabs on the grill are delicious. But I don't have a grill at the camp that big. I'm not getthenet with a Big Green Egg at every location I visit.

There much easier to peel, once grilled, as opposed to boiled.

Shell becomes brittle

So you grill them with the lungs and guts?

I haven't had an issue picking crabs since I was 12.

Y'all know the 'cut the legs at the knuckle' trick?

Then you press the shell, open it, and all the meat slides out. I had a lady that worked at a crab processing place show me that trick.

Works great.

I call the flat leg with the jumbo lump attached, the lollipop. Easy to get that out. So good.

Grew up working with crabs. Even worked at a processing house.

Easiest way to clean crabs is to dunk them in ice water (so they can't move) ...put on some gloves, pull the shell off, the use the shell to scrape off the lungs and any guts.

I'd eat the grilled ones, but I prefer boiled.

My dad has done this and is apeshit over them. I have yet to try it.

I cut him at the knuck too.

When you leave him attached, and slide it out with the rest, it's a huge lump of meat.

I'll look for pics of that technique. Once you learn it, and use it, it increases your crab consumption by several orders of magnitude.
