I want to plan a weekend trip to relax, eat, drink and fill up a cooler or two. I want to get some good Tasso, boudin, andouille and anything else I may discover along the way. I'm also intrigued by the Mickey Brown tamales but not sure if they are available everywhere.
Anyway, where should I go and why? What else needs to go in the cooler?TIA.

I don't get the hype. Every Rouses I've been in carries them.

Stay wherever you want as long as you are in driving distance to Ville Platte/Mamou to load up your cooler on the best smoked meats & boudin around. I suggest T-Boys (Mamou) & Paul's Meat Market (VP), get the boudin, tasso, smoked ponce, smoked sausage, andouille, tasso roasts, crawfish stuffed boneless fryers, grillades, & anything else that catches your eye-you will not be disappointed.

Leave Louisiana like I did(Richmond, VA) and TRY and find a "decent" meal at a local restaurant. ANY area of Louisiana is superior!

I agree. Good food and it's home. Good food can be had all over the state. For it's size, Monroe has a very good selection of quality dining choices .
