Weber kettle one touch with the ash catcher (gold). You will be able to do steaks and indirect low and slow. Just when you master it, you'll upgrade and get a WSM and still cook on the one touch! Each will have its own merit!

Just don't fall for all the gimmicks, bells and whistles shite. I have a friend that bought the Charbroil infrared grill when it first came out and that thing rusted out in a few months. Just go with whatever Weber you're comfortable with. Good luck.

Weber Performer. Have had mine for 7 years now and it is still going strong. Will probably get over 20 years out of it. It is a 22.5 inch Weber kettle with all the bells and whistles. It comes with a cart, shelf, charcoal bin, charcoal trays and an ignitor to light your charcoal.

How long can one expect a ceramic cooker to last? (BGE or Primo)

As long as you don't drop it or crack it, then life.

Most come with warranties for extended period of time? I think primo has a 20 year warranty from what I gather.

After 20 years of grilling and having tried many of the grills on the market, I switched back to the Weber silver 22.5" and have never looked back. After a very small learning curve, you can grill and smoke with the best of them. Just get a Weber chimney starter and a water pan as well. Love the gold series as well. I will be buying a WSM this spring to augment my arsenal. IMO, you can't go wrong with a Weber.

I see these kind from time to time around the rentals near where I live.
Folks get a nice pay check and they go buy the $40 grill, the shitty charcoil, and a foam chest to hold the beer.
They burn the meat, leave the grill out to rust, and Franky sits on the chest and breaks it.
All good.

what grill would be the best bang for our buck?

BGE or primo. It'll be the last grill/smoker you purchase.

My neighbors bge is 17 years old and besides a little fading, looks and works like a boss.

I haven't considered anything but a Weber. I have no clue what you're talking about.
