Best I've had is T-Jim's in Cottonport. Regular, smoked, red, and smoked red are all on-point.

I also used to really like Mowata Store, but it seems like it's gone downhill. Nunu's and T-Boys also put out a good product. Never cared much for Billy's or Best Stop.

As far as boudin balls go, the pepperjack-stuffed ones at Kartchners in Krotz Springs are the best I've ever had.

We stopped in Mowata once to try the boudin, the 3 people in the vehicle found it to be the worst boudin we had ever had. It was off colored-almost "white", it was mushy, & the seasoning was off. I've eaten a lot of boudin from all over Louisiana, some good, some bad but I've never had any as inedible as the one from Mowata store. Maybe it was a bad batch?

What is red boudin? Never heard of it. Is it blood boudin?

Like I said about 8-10 years ago it was really good. Not sure what happened but the past couple of times it hasn't been good at all.

Billy's gets a ton of love on here, and I have enjoyed it over the years. But, the last few times we bought some, we found that the rice was mushy and it was pretty greasy (probably why the rice was mushy). They put our links in a Styrofoam to go plate and the amount of grease on the bottom is very noticeable. I'm guessing they're using a cheaper meat or they're not trimming enough fat off of what they are using. I've heard the same comments from others. Don't get me wrong, it's still tasty, but it's not what it used to be.

As for others, I like (in no order):

Tboys
Chevron off of 190 in Elton, LA (can't remember the name of the store in it).
Jannise's in Sunset
Bourque's in Port Barre

If that's the Chevron right before Elton that's across from those rice dryers by the track, then yes.

Spots corner

I grew up in elton and i would not eat that stuff to save my life. I have tried it several times over the years and i always throw it out after a couple of bites. It ALWAYS has gristle in it.

Damn, I only bought it there one time while traveling to my camp in Indian Village. Even Boudin Link gave it a "B" grade on their website (and they're tough critics), that's why I tried it. Oh well, I might have got lucky on the batch I purchased.

As far as Ray's Boudin in Opelousas on the old Sunset Rd., I can only recommend and failed to mention in my last post. They have consistent quality over the years and produce boudin with a heavy liver flavor (if that's what you're after). Definitely not greasy like their local competitor (Billy's) here in Opelousas. As a side note, they sell a good hickory smoked sausage that's worth a try.

The mowata store was what boudin was supposed to be like. Had just enough liver in it and the rice was always on point. Not the mushy shite they serve in most places now.

2nd place would've been Best Stop back before Scott was the "boudin capital".

Mowata back in the mid 90s till prolly 05' or so. My buddy's parents lived in attwood acres by Crowley high. Go duck/goose hunt in Lyons point, grab some ruddocks for breakfast. Come home, take a nap then head to mowata for a 6pk and a couple links.

Then if we were really feeling it.... hit the geaux cup. Which was just about every time btw.

The mowata store was just like the boudin my great grandmother would make when I was growing up....
