Let me start off by saying I've never tried it.

The other day on "Chopped", the chef made vanilla ice cream and sprinkled curry on it. Even the judges were like "WTF?"

After they tasted it, they all said it was great, surprisingly.

Vosges chocolate has a bar (naga? iirc) featuring curry and coconut.

Never. But I see how it could work. And now I'm thinking about ways to give Vanilla ice cream a little "bite." The first thing I thought of was cinnamon. Now I want it.

Makes since. One of the spices found in curry, fenugreek, is responsible for giving those cheap pancake syrups their artificial maple flavor. Maple & vanilla ice cream doesn't suck.

A drizzle (and I mean a DRIZZLE; if you pour it on like chocolate syrup, you're gonna have a bad time) of some good balsamic works.

One time at work, they mistakenly dumped liquid crab boil instead of vanilla extract in homemade ice cream. I only heard the story, but they said it was hot and cold at the same time. :)

A very good flaky sea salt is what I like.

Also just a tiny dust of cayenne works well.

Sounds like it could be tasty. I never eat plain ice cream though - maybe I should try. It reminds me of the balance of chili mango snacks

You cannot "sprinkle" curry. A curry is a sauce. You may find "curry powder" at a store, but that is just some americanized indian spice.

No I don't like my ice cream to taste like Christmas candle.

I rarely make ice cream. I've had some weird flavors at a couple of local ice cream shops. I know one had chocolate and curry together, and it was fantastic. I'm pretty sure I've had vanilla and curry together, too.

When I go for ice cream I always like to try the weird flavors that nobody else wants to try. I usually end up tasting 3-4 flavors, too. I enjoy seeing how these ice cream shops make different flavor combinations work.

At first, I honestly didn't. It's not unfathomable, because some curries are sweet.

People in South LA flip their shite if someone mentions a recipe to make gumbo that doesn't include a roux, thus making it "not gumbo". I see this as no different.

I don't think so. I think they had the Thanksgiving flavors on tap then. Turkey and cranberry, sweet potato casserole, etc... It was weird, but in a good way.
