Low Fat Diet Is Allegedly Wrong According to Report

Just came across this article that is apparently front page all over the UK today: LINK
Of course, at the end of the article they quote several experts who say this is completely wrong.
I don't know how feel without doing more research myself, but I do know the diabetes epidemic seems to have begun in the 80's, which is when the low fat craze began.

Urging people to follow low-fat diets and to lower their cholesterol is having “disastrous health consequences”, a health charity has warned.
In a damning report that accuses major public health bodies of colluding with the food industry, the National Obesity Forum and the Public Health Collaboration call for a “major overhaul” of current dietary guidelines. They say the focus on low-fat diets is failing to address Britain’s obesity crisis, while snacking between meals is making people fat.
Instead, they call for a return to “whole foods” such as meat, fish and dairy, as well as high-fat, healthy foods including avocados, arguing: “Eating fat does not make you fat.”

Eat real things. You'll be fine.

Eating real food is good.
If it can go bad, buy it and eat it. If it never goes bad, don't buy it and thank me later.
Stay on the outer ring of the grocery store, aisles have nothing but shite.

Because to make things "low fat" or "fat free", the products were just loaded up with carbs and sugars so they wouldn't taste like cardboard.
There's a lot of interesting literature out there re this. Pretty much two doctors at the same time were doing research and one was saying sugar was the bad guy and the other was saying fat was the bad guy. The fat is the bad guy doctor won the fight hence the "fat is bad for you" movement. I'll have to find it.
ETA: John Yudkin and Ancel Keys were the guys I was thinking of.

She just keeps ordering her non-fat white chocolate mocha from starbucks with 5 pounds of sugar and claims it's okay because it's "non-fat"
I used to always opt for the low fat options thinking I'm choosing a healthier alternative, but when you look at the label, almost always when they remove fat they add sugar.

Now, if you cut the fat without adding back sugar, you would do pretty OK. But you're basically limited to vegetables if you're wanting to do that.

Eating more calories than you expend makes you fat, period.

Body builder diets are some of the most unhealthy on earth.
They are too.
They are too.

I'm sure eating a very high fat diet somehow isn't great for you, but it is pretty funny how we've attacked fat in food as the culprit of why people are overweight.
If anything, it may affect things like your cholesterol and such, but it has 0 impact on your waist line. The fat you eat doesn't suddenly and more easily turn into body fat.

Experts can't decide what's healthy. I'll just stick to my diet of vegetables, lean protein, and semen.

A few years back I switched back to drinking whole milk, real butter, nuts, avocados and such. Also switched to mostly wheat bread and things like that as well. My blood pressure and cholesterol were borderline and now they're fine. My exercise level is about the same. I'm in the camp that real food is better for you.

It's not rocket science - there are good fats and bad fats. Avocados, for example, have tons of fat in them, but are very good for you.
Problem is, years ago when the "Food Pyramid" was created, people were told to take in very little fats, and companies began catering to that. Hence why you see "fat-free" versions of stuff everywhere. People see "fat-free" on a label of Nabisco cookies and think "oh yay, healthy!", when of course they are not.

My diet has always been pretty good. Fortunately I like most vegetables. I was always eating low-fat, like 99/1 or 93/7 ground turkey, and grilled chicken b/c I was afraid of saturated fats found in red meat. While I don't think it's OK to go crazy and only eat red meat, I bet it's not that harmful to have a steak or hamburger meat once or twice a week.

correct. it isn't even up for scientific debate, and I don't say that often.

I don't disagree, but unfortunately many people will read this and see "high-fat diet the way to go", and that is simply not the case either.
