But with low carb you're really not eating less substance - the calorie intake is lower because there's far less sugar and the metabolism shifts to straight burning body fat stored as sugar to make up the difference.

I think he means it's unsustainable in terms that it is hard to stick to a no-carb diet long term. At least that's how I read it.
This is what I meant.

Blah blah blah. Calories in vs calories out. Track what you are eating and see why "low carb works". You aren't breaking any thermodynamic laws today.

I find it to be very easy. I have been doing for about 3 years.

You are eating less calories. Until you start getting really good at adding in fats. Then you don't lose any more. And super hard to bulk without chugging oil.
How about moderation? You don't have to eat bread but there are starchy vegetables that are full of micro nutrients.

Well more power to you, my friend. I guess I just love bread, pasta, and cheese way too much.

This is like trying to ponder why someone became wealthy.
This board would state that the answer is easy. All you have to do is make more money than you spend.
Certainly you would be correct, but that statement adds little value or any meaningful answer to the initial question posed
Causality is at the heart of the discussion

My fault, I was thinking back to my Paleo days.

well if you replace carbs (esp simple sugars and refined carbs) with fats, you are going to be more satiated when you eat
so you do "eat less", primarily snacking (Which is terrible)

Is this going to be a ketogenic diet thread?
Posted on 5/23/16 at 1:46 pm to SlowFlowPro
im' trying so hard to stay out of this thread but the amount of misinformation is staggering.
all calories are NOT created equal. the effect sugar has on insulin and your body's reaction to are well-document to the point its almost criminal that sugar is still poured into processed foods at the rate at which it is.

It's really simple:
Whole foods, portion control and exercise.
Nuff said.

Pretty amusing coming from a plus 20% body fat clown that all calories are not equal (for body composition)
Brb eating Nutella crepe
Brb bk nuggets
Brb bk cheeseburgers
Brb macaroni salad
Brb beer
For today's diet. All at 10% bf.
How mad are you ot loungers?

yep. stick with the 'edges' of the supermarket.
dont be lazy & prepare food from scratch where possible.
realize nobody's BMR (basal metabolic rate) is going to be above 2000 calories a day & PAY ATTENTION to how close to that number you come to over a 24 hour period.
for every 3500 calorie deficit, you lose a pound.
for every 3500 calorie surplus, you gain a pound.
do the math
