Tennessee law says that an employer can not restrict an employee from keeping a gun in their car.

Unless that employer is the federal government and you are on their land when you park.

Which means no guns while I am on my employer's property, but I park in a private owned garage, so I can keep it there.

My wife's company just had a meeting with them and told them no guns on the premises even in cars. She carries a Smith 637 in the car. The parking lot has public access with no gate. They have a showroom where the public can come on the premises.

This policy is illegal
RS 32:292.1

quote:

§292.1. Transportation and storage of firearms in privately owned motor vehicles

A. Except as provided in Subsection D of this Section, a person who lawfully possesses a firearm may transport or store such firearm in a locked, privately-owned motor vehicle in any parking lot, parking garage, or other designated parking area.

B. No property owner, tenant, public or private employer, or business entity or their agent or employee shall be liable in any civil action for damages resulting from or arising out of an occurrence involving a firearm transported or stored pursuant to this Section, other than for a violation of Subsection C of this Section.

C. No property owner, tenant, public or private employer, or business entity shall prohibit any person from transporting or storing a firearm pursuant to Subsection A of this Section. However, nothing in this Section shall prohibit an employer or business entity from adopting policies specifying that firearms stored in locked, privately-owned motor vehicles on property controlled by an employer or business entity be hidden from plain view or within a locked case or container within the vehicle.

D. This Section shall not apply to:
(1) Any property where the possession of firearms is prohibited under state or federal law.
(2) Any vehicle owned or leased by a public or private employer or business entity and used by an employee in the course of his employment, except for those employees who are required to transport or store a firearm in the official discharge of their duties.
(3) Any vehicle on property controlled by a public or private employer or business entity if access is restricted or limited through the use of a fence, gate, security station, signage, or other means of restricting or limiting general public access onto the parking area, and if one of the following conditions applies:
(a) The employer or business entity provides facilities for the temporary storage of unloaded firearms.
(b) The employer or business entity provides an alternative parking area reasonably close to the main parking area in which employees and other persons may transport or store firearms in locked, privately-owned motor vehicles.

Public school teacher. As of this year CCW permit holders can fill out a form to be filed with admin and be able to keep it in our vehicles.

At some of the plants around Lake Charles they bring dogs that can sniff out empty shell casings

This is total crap. Just like any other reason an officer will bring a sniffing dog out... "That means he smells something!!" And then they get to rip your car to pieces.

It's just a BS excuse to do an unconstitutional search.

open/concealed carry at your discretion, however we work in several facilities that do not allow them, even in your vehicle

I never asked when I started with my current employer. I usually always have one within grabbing distance, and for sure always have a couple in my truck. If you asked my boss, he'd probably suspect I had several in my office. One of my employees once asked me if I cared if he carried. I told him sure, but don't tell anyone I said that.

I have 2 other employees that I absolutely would not let carry a gun in my office. shite, I wouldn't go dove hunting with them.

Ive worked in petrochem facilities for the last 10 years and not one allows weapons on THEIR property- including parking lot. Yes, I believe some weapon bans are rediculous at some places of business but a refinery is not a place you want someone shootin off bullets

They gave me a glock 23 .40, a Remington 870 Tactical, a Colt SMG 9mm, and a M16A1 to use. Pretty open about guns really

No offense, but it doesn't sound like you know very much about the subject.

"Dope dogs" (contraband dogs) are used periodically by refinery & pipeline security staff at their job sites.

Yes, they will alert on empty shell casings -- and on live ammo, on guns that haven't been cleaned since they were fired, on empty beer cans, and drugs like weed (pot//THC//whatever).

These are not "unconstitutional searches." If you work for these companies as an employee or as a contractor, you sign a release before you're hired stating they can search you, your vehicle and any belongings on their property, at any time. Period.

Most of my clients have a policy whereby if the dope dogs alert on you//your vehicle//your tool box//etc., you have the option of not allowing them to search. You are then told that you must leave immediately and that you will not ever be allowed entry onto that property -- never ever.

People who don't like these policies can choose to not work for companies such as Exxon, many other refiners, chemical plant owners, pipeline operators and power companies.

That's been fairly obvious for quite some time.
