re: PSA for those wanting to get into Flyfishing or just another rod - smoked hog
Fenwick Aetos. All the reviews put its performance on par or better than several much more expensive rods. Went with a 9 foot 5 weight. Went with Rio line and backing. ...

re: Going to Yellowstone & Grand Tetons...suggestions/Advice? - smoked hog
I did it in tennis shoes. The snow was melting pretty fast so it may be completely gone by the time you get there. ...

re: Going to Yellowstone & Grand Tetons...suggestions/Advice? - smoked hog
Can get to inspiration point from the north end of Jenny lake. Be prepared to cross a bit of snow. Was there last week, we got stopped by a moose for 20 minutes. Topped a rise and he was at 20 yards, awesome animals. In the way back to salt lake look up mesa falls. My favorite fall we stopped at....

re: A little trout porn - smoked hog
Was it on a big hobby ranch? Unreal what a solid catch and release program combined with a permit to shoot predatory birds can do. Almost like cheating but who cares, one heck of a time....

re: The Fly Fishing Thread: Questions, pics, discussion all here - smoked hog
I'm 90 percent sure I met him after coming into town. Seemed like a nice guy but had the kids and wife with me ready to go home. Something about cold and rainy doesn't make them want to hang out in fly shops. ...

re: The Fly Fishing Thread: Questions, pics, discussion all here - smoked hog
Don't have an exact budget. I see the TFO NXT combo is dirt cheap but don't know much about it. Was looking at the fenwick aetos and it is getting great reviews. But then I get lost in the details of reel and line. Sometimes I just think say to hell with it and just order the orvis encounter start...

Ask for Rance out of trouthunter. Grew up around fishing guides, spend all my time now with duck guides and have used a bunch of guides around the country. He was far and away the most enjoyable I've been around. I have his card if interested. He also has some rental cabins, might cut you a deal i...

I haven't done much on the white that far up. Some great fishing though. If your in that area don't overlook the Norfolk tail waters. There is a reason it's called the miracle mile. Smallies on the kings is a worthwhile trip as well. Be prepared for pretty country....

re: The Fly Fishing Thread: Questions, pics, discussion all here - smoked hog
Right now I'm just trying to figure out what kind of beginners set up I want to start with. I was using a borrowed rod and don't quite know where to start. Hate to drop Sage money only to decide I don't like it as much as I thought. Kind of looking at either a TFO base model or the Echo base kit...
have you ever fished the salt, friend?
Only a few times. Done a little offshore for the elusive Red Snapper and AJ. Grabbed a few grouper. Only one real excursion inshore for reds, specks and flounder. Rainbow trout will probably always be my favorite. They just don't live in u...

A little trout porn - smoked hog
I'm not going to lie, I attribute everything to one hell of a guide. If anyone is headed to northern Idaho, I have a great guide recommendation. Started out spin fishing a small lake but moved to a small creek to get our first taste of fly fishing. Spent four hours catching double digit number of tr...

re: Do you judge people by the music they listen to? - smoked hog
I pretty much judge everyone I meet based on their personal decisions. How they dress, music, physical appearance, music choice, manner of speaking. It isn't that there aren't decent people who listen to bro country, they are just less likely as a group to be people I want to be around. I cou...

re: Teachers are under paid...babysitters make more... - smoked hog
To be fair most of those numbers are skewed by coaches salaries and administration. A 1st year assistant football coach will often make as much as a 20 year teacher with a only a BSE. And benefits vary greatly by district. More rural districts often have pretty poor benefit packages. ...
