I was thinking the same thing. I quickly realized that I wouldn't be able to properly explain all of the things that added up to making it a crumby experience, so I stopped trying. I also understand all of the "send the steak back" comments but by the time I got a new one everyone else would have been on to the next course of their meal etc. The steak part, while no doubt setting the stage for the rest of the night, was really supposed to be a minor part of the story. I thought the waiter handled that as well as he could have. Next time I will just bring my helpful review to Yelp and let all of the fine people of the food board learn for themselves.

Ignore everyone telling how you should of or could of correctly handled it. You're allowed to have a shitty night. Just don't go back to jubans. It's overrated anyways.

You dont seem to understand it. You werent going to be getting a new one. They would have just threw your steak back on the grill for a few minutes and it would have come back out immediately. People would still be eating their entrees. Most probably not even half way done.

Well we only got two parts of the story. The undercooked steak and the problem with the bill. Did anything else happen besides this because you described yourself as being absolutely sick and it being a nightmare dining experience.

Martini posted a pic.

Wow, just wow!

With this new skill, I guess we get to see some pics of that delicious food you whip up.

Weird. Never had an undercooked steak. Seems like had you asked, they would have put it back on the grill for a few minutes and problems solved.

Sounds like you should've ordered a few of their honey infused bourbon and just relaxed a little bit.

Sounds like the OP really misses that $140 and expected way more than what she/he got for 2 people.

OP, probably needs to stick to places like Texas Roadhouse to retain happiness in life.

NO. YOU WOULD NOT HAVE GOTTEN A NEW ONE.

When a steak is under temp they "bring it up to temp"

You should have sent it back. That is squarely on you.

BTW, 99% of all premium steaks served in restaurants, including steak houses, use pre-cut vacuum sealed steaks. It's called wet aging. Please try Juban's again when it's just you and your wife or a small group and you're not with a huge group all wanting separate checks.

Why did yall give him a raw, vacuum sealed steak? Never heard of that? Is that the norm over there?

I understand that you had a legitimately disappointing experience at Juban's. I also understand not wanting to send the steaks back since you were in a large group.

I don't get the part about your wife being so upset and this:
quote:

I am absolutely sick right now thinking about our experience.

And this:
quote:

What was supposed to be a nice night with friends turned into a $140 nightmare and a novel on the food board typed entirely on an iPhone.

I understand being disappointed in the food, but you sound devastated and like a few undercooked steaks and a long wait for the bill completely ruined your time with your friends and then some. Something more than undercooked food and a wait on a check must have happened to make this so traumatic. 140 bucks doesn't equal a "nightmare".

Again, I get not wanting to send the steaks back while in a group. I would have asked them to pack those to go and cooked them at home for another meal. Maybe then, the $140 wouldn't have been a nightmare?

This is why Baton Rouge can't have nice things.

Applebee's and chains use bagged steaks, I would hate to pay $35 for a steak out of a bag.

what I don't get about the story is.

---all fine

---steaks come out raw

---doesn't say ANYTHING

--waiter notices and offers to remedy problem

---OP decided he didn't want a steak during desserts or coffee to disturb the other guests?

---OP decides to just leave.

---OP asks for his check to be split and says that took 55 minutes.

So are we to believe in that 55 minutes the other guests finished and then paid and left?

The review just sounds exaggerated in so many ways.

55 minutes is a really long time. Many times when I go out, I'm not even in a place for 55 minutes, start to finish.
Juban's probably uses Micros, and I don't see how it would take THAT long to split the check up.

In that whole time did he speak to a manager?
No, because he is "non confrontational" and didn't want to make a scene. So instead he left a dinner party early and then stood around for 55 minutes?

The whole story is like a slice of swiss cheese to me.

Oh I can promise you that if you've ordered steaks out, you've gotten them at more than just Applebee's. Steak in vac sealed bag doesn't always mean poor quality.
