Lawyer could make the point that the limits on charging certainly should apply to executing a sentence.

My point was they could suspend it, but say if you frick up again, you're getting all 13 +. Still letting him live his life as is, but not letting him completely away away with it.
I'm not a lawyer but I think that would work.

I doubt it. I think that only applies to being charged with a particular crime.
This. Legally, he must do his time.
But, I'm still wondering if this violates the 8th amendment. It seems pretty cruel and unusually to wait over a decade to make a guy serve his time.

Well I'm not a gynecologist, but I'll take a look anyway.

LNCHBOX thinks his sentence should be doubled for deception.

This is why pardons exist though.
Excellent point!

In LA, he could file a motion to amend / reconsider the sentence.

He'll end up making a deal for less than a year. He may have gotten out for good behavior after a few years anyways

not really that bad of a situation if you use your brain as a D.A

How do you mean? I would assume that the only thing he can do is either nothing (in which case he's not doing his job) or send the guy away to serve his time. Does he have another option?

The guy was convicted of armed robbery. That means he held a gun on some poor person and made them hand over money. I find it hard to believe he is now "barely holding on" in prison and that he is suddenly a nice guy. Believe none of what you read and half of what you see.
Fitting that the cop believes that criminals can't turn their lives around.

Does he have another option?

DA is a political position. This sort of thing sucks when you're the one filling the position, instead of just one of us who "Knows what is right."
And this is coming from someone who thinks they should let the guy go if the facts are as presented.

The DA is doing his job. We have a system in place to deal with situations like this. Best to let the system work.

Thanks.

Sounds like he's an upstanding citizen in a society now. Not a leach on our taxes like so many criminals and convicts.
Typical, fricking typical political bull shite is what this is.
