Took the wife last Saturday night. Sorry no pics of the food...or the wife.

The place was packed. Had a very similar vibe to Cochon, which I like.

We really enjoyed the meal. Probably about 2 hours start to finish. Food was great and service was just as good.

Before I looked at the menu I Started off trying to order a NOLA red, but they were out of it, so I had a Canebrake instead. So I treblehooked them and got a free pint because there were drunks next to me. Switched to wine after.

We then ordered a couple small plates about every 20 minutes. Waiter was not only cool with it, he seemed to encourage it.

We started with a dozen James River Oysters from Virginia. The server suggested they were very briny and flavorful...Meh. They were a pretty mild oyster IMO. I enjoyed them, but wouldn't go out of my way to order them again.

We got the Tuna Crudo special for the night, next. Perfectly cut tuna in olive oil, basil, pickled corn, and a bit of salt. Excellent.

We then got the Crawfish Spring Onion Gratinee. I am curious to know the ingredients/creation of this dish. I've never even heard of a "gratinee" Wife loved it. It didn't last long.

Next came the spicy ground shrimp and noodles. We both very much enjoyed the dish as we were both a bit skeptical about "ground shrimp", but it was very good. I think the use of cumin really was a nice change of flavors.

Last dish was the capellini with crab and chilies. The server said it was his favorite small plate. I was stuffed at that point, but it was very good as well. I couldn't even think about dessert.

It was probably the best service I've had in New Orleans this year. The server and assistant were on top of everything without being intrusive.

I'll be back next time in New Orleans. Too much other stuff I want to try. Especially the whole fish specials. They looked great.


All in all. Great meal.

I went last thursday and had a similar meal. I love the place, as it really accommodates to any kind of diner.

I assumed as much, but it was as cheesy as a most of the gratins I've had.

This is best way to enjoy the restaurant. I told my waitress upon seating that we would do this and she encouraged it as well.

I'm heading over there for lunch today. Mouth is watering.

Nice review. I love the idea of ordering the small plates as you go and I love when the wait staff is encouraging about that sort of thing. I tip them well for that. I'm also impressed when they know the food and you can tell they've sampled it.

O'brah is jealous.

If they have the Oyster with pig jowel poboy as a lunch special, you have to order it and take and post a picture. I will reimburse.

I agree, And I did. ~30% for time and quality. When I read some of the ignorant post about how they don't think a server deserves to be tipped that much, I just don't understand it. Good service can really make the meal that much more enjoyable.

If it is there I am sure that either myself or my old man will order it. I'll have to wait and see what fish is on the daily menu...I always get sucked in if they have a fish I've never caught/eaten before.

Absolutely. That's a big reason why I go to Ruth's Chris often in Baton Rouge. I have the same waiter every time and he's a jewel. He makes the experience so enjoyable. Knows I like to spread the time between the apps and entrees and visit with my dinner companions. Keeps my wine glass or cocktail full at all times and makes the whole night enjoyable. I tip him very generously.

So two months after starting this thread I finally got around to trying Peche tonight. Ryan and Stephen were there, didn't see Donald.

Got two appetizers to start:

Hushpuppies and shrimp toast. Both were pretty good, I liked the hushpuppies better. Don't know how I felt about the shrimp toast, had a strange texture to me. Everyone else at the table liked them both.

We got 5 small plates:

Crawfish Spring Onion Gratinee - This was my favorite, very flavorful.
Royal Red Shrimp with Garlic Butter - Very enjoyable, the garlic butter was tasty.
Spicy ground shrimp with noodles - This was tied as the favorite dish with the crawish gratinee among the rest of the table. I wasn't overly fond of it. Had a lot of red pepper and reminded me of an indian dish. Was still good, I ranked it third after the crawfish and the shrimp.
Fish sticks in LA31 batter - Meh. Weren't bad but were still fish sticks.
Grilled chicken with white bbq sauce - Had one non-seafood eater in the group. I tasted this last, wasn't great. The white bbq sauce was decent.

I also had myself a cup of seafood gumbo. The roux was dark like a chicken gumbo, thought it was pretty good.

For dessert we had:
Flourless chocolate cake with mint chocolate chip sherbet. This was my favorite. Simply delicious.
Peach almond crisp with cinnamon ice cream.
Pistachio crusted blueberry tart with honey chantilly. - The peach almond crisp and the blueberry tart were my next favorites. These were seasonal according to the waitress.
Chocolate peanut butter banana pie with butterfinger crumbles. - This was really good but probably my least favorite dessert. Everyone at the table liked it, I'm just not the greatest banana fan.

Overall a really good experience and I will definitely be back. Will probably try to be more adventurous and eat off the raw bar next time.
