If you listen to what Saban has said about retiring, the dozens of times he has had to speak about it, he has always said he would retire when he felt like he was no longer contributing positively to the program. He just won the SEC, and made the playoff. Not the ending he wanted but he had a better year than all but 2 teams in college football. That does not sound like to me the circumstances he would retire after. Unless he just does not like it anymore.
re: Sad day for the Alabama Sports Board - TidalSurge1 passed away on July 8th

RIP to Surge. He was a great poster, I know he took his ball and ran with the recruiting page, but it was great while it lasted and he put in a ton of work that was much appreciated by all.
re: Looking at bamas 2025 schedule I can see why Saban isn’t happy with the 9 game schedule

Ok a grown up is here now. NFL LSU calling someone a spineless pussy is kind of like Bret Beilema calling someone fat, is it not?
Every coach agrees with Nick and they have all pretty much said so. He was asked to go up there by Sankey because he knows that Saban will be listened to more than anyone else.
re: What SEC schools voted against 9 games?
Posted by amders44 on 6/2/23 at 6:59 am to SouthernInsanity
It is my understanding they did not even have a vote, because Sankey and the Presidents did not want the 9 game schedule if they were not going to be paid by the networks for the extra game.
Right now UGA is the top program in the country. If Bama wins it in 23 then they will assume the title back. But someone said it earlier, you have to like the trajectory of UGA because their coach is younger.
Except for the fact that he had an inappropriate relationship with his secretary and lied about it, and he inherited a strong winning program from Stallings and started losing games almost immediately.
re: Saban's replacement - who ya got?

It’s not that anyone thinks Kirby is better than Saban it’s that he is younger than Saban. If I knew Saban was going to coach 10 more years. I will take him over anyone, period, end of discussion!!!

What if, and this is a very large what if. Saban coached 5 more years and won 2 or 3 more Natties. Bama decided they wanted Kirby, and by then he was making 15 milion a year at UGA. Bama offers 20 million a year. I am not saying they would or that he would come, but it would be intriguing. UGA would have to match it would they not??
re: just wondering as a old LSU Tiger are we seeing LSU football moving up & seeing Bama down
Posted by amders44 on 5/22/23 at 8:53 am to stephendomalley
It all depends on how things shake out. I believe Bama will be stronger on both lines of scrimmage this year. That means a lot. I believe our coordinators will be better. If, and it is a big if, we get a QB that will play winning football the talent is there to support. The scheudle is much more favorable, having Texas, LSU, UT, Arkansas, and Ole Miss at home. Keep in mind when Bama walks out on that field they will do so with 3 of the top 6 recruiting classes of all time. Can we execute, coach, and meld that talent into a championship team? Who knows, but we are several months away from finding out.
re: Alabama fans, be honest, do you think we've seen the beginning of the end for Saban
Posted by amders44 on 5/17/23 at 2:39 pm to KD Burner Account
4 times since Saban has been at Bama, he has not won the title two years in a row. 07, 08 but won in 09. 13, and 14, but won it in 15, 18 and 19 but won it in 20. So here we are for the 4th time, no title in 20 and 21. My answer is that if Bama wins the title this year, then its business as usual for the program, and there is not really a fall off. If they do not then statistically it will be something that has not happened since he hase been there, so yes it would certainly be a drop off. I say lets get the season here and find out.
Exactly why this Bama fan was pulling for the Vols, for a reaction like this from Duke.
How many teams will have 3 of the Big 6 as the permanent teams on their schedule? I believe there is only one. Nick Saban is right. The reason it was scheduled that way is because in most years those 3 games have been among the top games for ratings, ESPN wants them every year.

He is my favorite player of all time. I still say to this day that MJ is the best player of all time, but Pete is the best to ever do it when talking just about basketball skills, shooting, passing, and dribbling. He is the best when it came to pure basketball skills.

That’s what will happen the commissioner has almost said as much. He said long time rivalries will be protected and proximity will be strongly considered. Auburn and UT are 100 percent going to be two of them and Miss. State is the closest school and we have played them the longest. I really think that will be Bamas 3 teams.
re: Bama folks… how much longer do you give Saban?
Posted by amders44 on 2/8/23 at 10:52 am to SidewalkTiger
I understand why all these speculative threads about Coach Saban and Alabama now. But they have been pretty regular around here since he got here. They might be correct this time, eventually they will. But what will the reaction be if he does happen to have multiple National Championships still to come? I for one would not bet against him.
re: Kevin Steele new Alabama DC
Posted by amders44 on 2/5/23 at 6:10 pm to Marktastic86
In my opinion the plan all along was to get Pruitt, but he is probably to big a risk for the program to hire right now. So then who do you hire or who would take the job when you tell them you just need them for a year or two? That’s why Grantham was interviewed and that is why Steele took the job. I think it is a perfect fit in this situation.
re: Early word is Glenn Shumann is the top target for Bama
Posted by amders44 on 1/14/23 at 1:12 pm to Dawgfanman
Nope born and raised in Metro Atlanta, just smart enough and lucky enough to choose Bama as my team 52 years ago when I was 6 years old. Graduated from a small college that did not have a football program, so no need to switch. I was referring to the school not the state, I will add it seems like the majority of the citizens in Alabama appear to be smarter than the majority of the citizens in Georgia as they did not vote for Joe Biden for President.

History says that there is nothing better than Bama!!!

I think with the portal, more early enrollees will be the norm. Bama has 25 this year.
